The countries of the Eurasian Economic Union have agreed on coordinated approaches to combating intellectual property rights infringement on the internet.

These approaches are planned to be formalized in an Agreement, the draft of which is expected to be approved in the coming months.

The Agreement will outline standards to combat the illegal use of films, music, books, and other copyrighted works in the digital environment.

The document will also provide for the development of coordinated approaches by EAEU member states to restricting access to websites and online resources that illegally host counterfeit content. The main goal of the agreement is to increase the effectiveness of copyright protection and develop unified mechanisms for cooperation between EAEU member states.

In particular, it is planned to provide for the possibility of blocking internet resources based on court decisions of the EAEU member state where the rights of the copyright holder were infringed. Furthermore, website owners, information intermediaries, and other participants in the digital environment will be required to take measures to restrict access to such content.

Furthermore, the EAEU countries plan to create national electronic registries of internet resources to which access has been restricted due to intellectual property rights violations. These registries will be used to track blocked resources and facilitate the exchange of information between authorized bodies of member states.

The creation of such registries is expected to increase the transparency of measures taken, ensure a unified approach to blocking illegal content, and strengthen coordination of efforts to protect intellectual property rights in the digital space.

Implementation of the Agreement will help reduce the spread of counterfeit content online, create clear and predictable conditions for digital market participants, and promote the development of fair competition within the EAEU.
