Inspiration comes to poets in different ways. Some find it in love, while others need a special environment for verses to be born. Such a creative impulse was experienced by a serviceman of Military Unit 5513 of the National Guard of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the city of Taraz — Private Erik Yskak. His poetic talent revealed itself precisely in the army setting.
A native of the Almaty Region, he joined the ranks of the National Guard consciously — to fulfill his military duty and to shape his own style within the patriotic genre.
As the popular saying goes, “A fisherman father, and the children look toward the water.” The 25-year-old guardsman inherited his poetic talent from his father, Yeskermes Sarsembayev, a member of the Writers’ Union of Kazakhstan, a poet, and a prose writer.
The family’s creative legacy is not limited to literature. Private Yskak is also a master of applied arts and a jeweler. He acquired the foundations of his craft at the O. Tansykbayev Almaty College of Decorative and Applied Arts.
However, it was poetry that allowed him to fully reveal his inner potential. Erik sincerely values his service in the National Guard: it was here, in the ranks of the law-enforcement forces, that he truly comprehended such concepts as courage, heroism, patriotism, and loyalty to the military oath.
While ensuring public order and the peace of citizens in a city with a two-thousand-year history, the young poet decided to dedicate his lines to the daily feat of guardsmen carrying out combat duty.
Thus, the pages of his notebook began to fill with poems in a patriotic genre that had previously been unfamiliar to him.
The National Guard is a space of opportunities and talents. Within the ranks of the law-enforcement forces, every serviceman not only defends the Motherland, but also discovers new facets within himself. A vivid example of this is Private Yskak, who uses the time of his compulsory service to refine his talent and pursue creative growth.
