Kazakhstan reaffirmed its commitment to gender equality at the 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women
13.03.2026 08:01:18 204New York, March 9-11, 2026 – Kazakhstan delegation led by Elvira Azimova, Chair of the Constitutional Court of the Republic Kazakhstan, took part in the 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women.
During the Commission's general discussions, Elvira Azimova presented Kazakhstan's experience in strengthening legal and institutional mechanisms that ensure gender equality and empower women. In the speech, Chair of the Constitutional Court emphasized the importance of sustainable development, the role of justice, and a comprehensive approach to protecting women's rights at all levels of public policy.
During the Ministerial Roundtable on “Achieving Gender Equality and Empowering All Older Women,” attention was focused on Kazakhstan's practical initiatives aimed at supporting older women, increasing their social activity, and ensuring equal access to legal protection and social services.
The speeches made by the Kazakhstan delegation during the session of the Commission underscored the country's commitment to fulfilling its international obligations in the field of gender equality, actively participating in the exchange of experience, and promoting global practices for the protection of the rights of women of all ages, including older women.
In addition, during the visit, Elvira Azimova held a meeting with Alexander De Croo, Administrator of the UN Development Programme. The parties discussed strengthening international cooperation in promoting gender equality, as well as the role of the UN Regional Centre for Sustainable Development Goals for Central Asia and Afghanistan in Almaty as a key hub for implementing sustainable development programmes and expanding partnership coordination in Central Asia.
