In honor of the Nauryz holiday, «Togyzkumalak» and chess tournaments were held

Brasília, March 18, 2026 - As part of the Nauryz celebrations, the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Brazil, in cooperation with the Latin American Togyzkumalak Federation and the Brazilian Chess Federation, organized friendly tournaments in the traditional Kazakh intellectual game “togyzkumalak” and chess. The event brought together participants interested in intellectual sports and the cultural traditions of Kazakhstan.

Welcoming remarks were delivered by Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Brazil B.Nussupov, Secretary General of the Togyzkumalak Federation in Latin America Germán González Girón and Director of the Brazilian Chess League for the Central-Western Region of Brazil Sherife Braga.

In his speech, B.Nussupov noted the significance of the Nauryz holiday as a symbol of renewal, harmony, and friendship among peoples, and emphasized the importance of holding such events to promote Kazakhstan’s cultural heritage and strengthen humanitarian ties. The Ambassador also spoke separately about the unique features of the Kazakh folk game “Togyzkumalak.”

Representatives of the Togyzkumalak and Chess Federations expressed their gratitude to the Embassy of Kazakhstan for organizing the tournaments and highlighted the growing interest among participants from Latin American countries in Kazakhstani sports, including the intellectual game of Togyzkumalak. It was proposed to hold the next friendly Togyzkumalak tournament at the Kazakh Cultural Center in Rosario, Argentina, in March 2027.

The tournaments in Brazil took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere, helping to strengthen cultural ties and promote Kazakhstan’s cultural heritage. The participants demonstrated a high level of skill, strategic thinking, and sportsmanship. Following the Togyzkumalak and chess tournaments, the participants and winners were presented with certificates and commemorative gifts.
