Why can't you leave a receipt at the checkout and throw it away?

The Department of State Revenue for the Mangystau region informs that some customers are too frivolous about the receipts that are issued after payment in the store. Meanwhile, this is a full-fledged document that can be used by fraudsters.

Many of our citizens do not attach any special importance to the cash receipt. Few people take it with them after shopping. As a result, the bins at cash desks or near ATMs are always filled with checks. And no one thinks about the importance of these little pieces of paper and what might happen to them. Very often they are simply disposed of and don't end up anywhere else. But, as practice shows, the risks of running into scammers and being left without money are even in the receipt left at the checkout.

What happens if you leave a receipt at the checkout?

Leaving a receipt at the checkout can attract fraudsters, which, in turn, is potentially dangerous for both the buyer and the outlet. For example, if a customer has paid for a purchase in cash, an attacker can use his receipt to steal a similar product.

The scheme is as follows: after removing the protective equipment from the packaging, the fraudster takes the goods out of the store. And if a guard stops him at the exit, the criminal will simply show him the receipt he found.

For the buyer who left the check, the risk may be that he may be checked for complicity. And this is a very unpleasant procedure.

An employee of the store may also be a fraudster. After taking the left receipt, the cashier can issue a refund to the passport details of the accomplices.

In addition, sellers can use the receipts for their own purposes, for example, to enter additional items for which an inattentive buyer pays, and take them for themselves.

Also, when paying in cash, the cashier may not issue a receipt, close the cashier as a result, and cancel the order. As a result, the cashier, not the store, will receive money for the product.

Other options for fraud by sellers are to write off products or manipulate a discount card, when the product is issued without a discount, and then the seller closes the payment with a discount on his card and receives the difference.

If the buyer paid by wire transfer, then fraudsters can find his phone number by name and surname in the receipt and contact him on behalf of the bank in order to force the victim to perform certain actions and steal her money.

And the last four digits of the bank card number displayed on the receipt will also help convince her.

Less dangerous reasons not to leave a receipt in the store

If you do not take into account such criminal offenses, then first of all you need to save the receipt in case the item does not suit the buyer and he decides to return the money.

According to the law on consumer protection, the buyer can return the goods to the store without a receipt, but in this case the process will be lengthy, as it will be necessary to provide proof that the purchase was made in this store.

Thanks to saved receipts, you can also receive cashback for purchases. And if you leave them at the checkout or throw them in the trash, then the citizens who have appropriated the checks can receive bonuses on their own cards, as well as enjoy discounts and promotions from the retailer instead of the real buyer.

We note that checks should not only be requested and collected, but also checked.

For example, there are regular price tag confusions in various retail outlets. As a result, one price is marked on the product shelf, while the product is already being processed at the checkout.

It is also not uncommon for a cashier to accidentally or intentionally punch the same product several times.

After examining the receipt well, you can find an error and contact the store administration for a recalculation.

We also remind you that if the seller refuses to accept a non-cash payment or does not issue a check, this is an offense.

Taking into account all of the above, you should be vigilant with these seemingly unnecessary pieces of paper. Take the receipt with you!
