Vienna, 2 April 2026 – From 20 March to 2 April, as part of the unique international project—the walking marathon “Ulytaumen” by Sarsenbay Kotyrashev—the Austrian stage was successfully completed across the federal provinces of Burgenland, Vienna, Lower Austria, Upper Austria, and Salzburg.

The 76-year-old Kazakh national is undertaking an unprecedented journey of approximately 1,650 kilometers from the capital of Serbia, Belgrade, to the French capital, Paris. This route represents not only an outstanding athletic achievement, but also a powerful symbol of resilience, intergenerational continuity, and the promotion of Kazakhstan’s positive image on the international stage. The project is being considered as a candidate for inclusion in the Guinness World Records.

During his passage through Austria, with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Austria, Sarsenbay Ata held meetings with representatives of the Kazakh diaspora, student associations, as well as partners in the cultural and public sectors. These engagements served as an important platform for strengthening ties with compatriots abroad and promoting national values.

A significant highlight was Sarsenbay Ata’s participation in the celebration of the spring festival Nauryz, organized with the support of the Embassy in Austria. In accordance with the ancient traditions of the Kazakh steppe, he was honored with the symbolic role of Kydyr Ata—a figure embodying prosperity, wisdom, and spiritual renewal.

As part of the festive program, Sarsenbay Ata delivered an address to Kazakh students studying in Austria, emphasizing the importance of education, patriotism, preservation of cultural identity, and responsibility toward future generations.

Throughout the Austrian stage of the journey, elements of Kazakh culture and traditions were presented to the Austrian public.

The Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Austria underscores that this project extends beyond a sporting event, representing a meaningful initiative in the field of people’s diplomacy. Sarsenbay Ata’s walking tour contributes to the development of intercultural dialogue, the strengthening of international cooperation, and the promotion of the values of peace, mutual understanding, and unity.
