Prague, 20 April 2026 – Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Czech Republic Kairat Abdrakhmanov held a meeting with Prague Zoo Director Lenka Poliakova to discuss the implementation of previously reached agreements on the reintroduction of Przewalski’s horses to Kazakhstan. The sides noted that this project is a prime example of successful bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the field of environmental protection and the restoration of rare animal species. It was announced that another group of four animals is scheduled to be transported by air to the Altyn Dala reserve, south of Kostanay, in early summer.

The Kazakh diplomat emphasized the priority attached by the country’s authorities and non-governmental organizations to biodiversity conservation and the sustainable development of natural ecosystems. Kazakhstan is actively involved in the implementation of international environmental initiatives aimed at restoring populations of tigers, saiga antelopes and other protected species listed in the Red Book, as well as in the development of specially protected natural areas.

Ambassador Abdrakhmanov expressed appreciation to the Czech side, German partners and Kazakhstani organizations, including the Association for the Conservation of Biodiversity of Kazakhstan (ACBK), for their consistent and long-term efforts to preserve the Przewalski’s horse and for their contribution to the project aimed at returning the species to its historical habitat in the steppes of Kazakhstan.

The interlocutors also discussed prospects for further expanding cooperation, including the exchange of experience between specialized institutions, strengthening the professional capacity of veterinary and environmental services, developing contacts between zoos in Kazakhstan (Almaty and Shymkent) and the Czech Republic (Prague and Liberec), as well as joint research initiatives in the field of biodiversity conservation.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the sides reaffirmed their mutual interest in further developing cooperation and implementing joint environmental projects aimed at preserving unique natural heritage and restoring native steppe ecosystems, thereby contributing to the strengthening of Kazakh-Czech scientific and humanitarian partnership.
