Geneva, April 22, 2026 - Delegation of Kazakhstan led by Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerlan Alimbayev participated in the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Regional Forum on Sustainable Development taking place in Geneva from 21 to 22 April 2026.

During the high-level plenary session, the Kazakh delegation highlighted the initiatives put forward by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to establish the UN Regional Center for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Almaty, an International Water Organization under the auspices of the UN, to declare 2026 the International Volunteer Year, as well as the comprehensive work being carried out by government agencies to achieve the SDGs.

During a side event dedicated to the role of youth in energy sector, attention of the participants was drawn to the Regional Ecological Summit currently underway in Astana and mutually beneficial cooperation within the UN Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA).

On the sidelines of the forum, Ambassador Alimbayev and Ms. Nurgul Zhannazarova, Director of the Department for the Development of the Social Sphere, Law Enforcement, and Specialized Agencies of the Ministry of National Economy, held working meetings with UNECE Executive Secretary Tatiana Molcean, Deputy Executive Secretary of UNECE Dmitry Mariyasin, and the heads of some UNECE member state delegations, exchanging views on bilateral cooperation and current issues within the UN.

Additionally, Mr. Alimbayev met with representatives of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to discuss the preparations for the upcoming reviews of Kazakhstan on the protection of child’s rights and the elimination of discrimination against women, scheduled for September and October this year.
