Presidents of Central Asian Countries Adopt Declaration on Cooperation in Ecology and Sustainable Development

As part of the 2026 Regional Environmental Summit, taking place in Astana from 22 to 24 April, the Heads of State of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan adopted the Declaration on Regional Cooperation in Ecology and Sustainable Development, titled “Environmental Solidarity of Central Asia.”

Through this Declaration, the Heads of State reaffirmed their commitment to stepping up joint efforts to develop common regional positions and solutions within multilateral environmental processes, including negotiations on climate change, glaciers, the mountain agenda, biodiversity, chemicals and waste management, combating plastic pollution, improving air quality, addressing land degradation and desertification, as well as promoting a consolidated position of Central Asian countries on key international platforms.

The Declaration makes an important contribution to strengthening partnership and mutual support among the Central Asian states with a view to ensuring environmental sustainability, inclusive economic growth and a sustainable future for present and future generations.
