Prague, 28 September 2026 - The Embassy of Kazakhstan in the Czech Republic took part in celebrations marking the 95th anniversary of the establishment of Prague Zoo and the 15th anniversary of the international “Return of the Wild Horses” project in the steppes of Kazakhstan and Mongolia. The organisers timed the celebration of these memorable dates to coincide with the Czech Statehood Day. The event was held on the premises of the Zoo in the presence of numerous visitors, members of the Czech public and the diplomatic corps.

Speaking at a presentation dedicated to the progress of the return of the Przewalski’s horse to its historical range, the management of Prague Zoo, as well as Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kairat Abdrakhmanov and Ambassador of Mongolia Bolormaa Battsaihan, spoke about measures being undertaken in their respective countries to restore ecological balance and preserve biodiversity. It was emphasised that the sustainable use of natural resources is a common task both for individual states and for the international community.

In Kazakhstan, within the framework of the project, the restoration of the Przewalski’s horse population in its natural habitat continues in the Altyn Dala State Nature Reserve, where the first offspring have already been born. The joint efforts of specialists from many countries under the auspices of the Czech Republic have demonstrated the practical value of coordinated cooperation among scientists, central and local authorities, non-governmental organisations, air forces and transport organisations, making it possible to achieve positive results.

The Kazakh side expressed its gratitude to Director of Prague Zoo Lenka Poliakova and to all participants in the ongoing project to return the Przewalski’s horse to the country of the Great Steppe for their practical contribution to strengthening international cooperation in the field of environmental protection.
