In his Address of September 8, 2025, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev set the goal of positioning the country among the leaders of digital development within the next three years. On January 6, 2026, a decree was signed declaring 2026 the Year of Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence.

As part of this initiative, new projects are being launched. In Astana, the International Artificial Intelligence Center Аlem.ai International AI Center (http://alem.ai/) has been opened.

On April 24, the Head of State personally visited the center, where he was presented with the “Astana Smart City” project by the company Presight AI — a large-scale initiative aimed at creating a next-generation intelligent urban infrastructure.

On the same day, the President launched a network of AI schools, Tomorrow School AI Network, across 14 regions (established in 2024 on the basis of Astana Hub), and opened the TUMO Center for Creative Technologies Astana for teenagers. The center offers 11 areas of study, including generative artificial intelligence, programming, game development, animation, 3D modeling, robotics, graphic and motion design, web development, filmmaking, and digital music.

During the event, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev awarded the winners of the national artificial intelligence competition, the alem.ai battle AI competition.

Awards were also presented to the winners of the AI Governance Cup among government agencies in six categories: “AI for Public Services,” “AI for the Economy,” “AI for Social Policy,” “AI for Security,” “AI for Regions,” and “AI for the Quasi-Public Sector.”

In addition, in an interactive format, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev launched the countdown to the international tournament Games of the Future – Astana 2026 and signed a commemorative plaque for alem.ai.

Kazakhstan is demonstrating consistent and systematic progress toward modernizing the country in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution — from building infrastructure and legislation to providing mass education for citizens — not merely adopting new technologies, but creating its own technological foundation for the future.

The country’s achievements are already visible on the global digital stage.

The national supercomputer Alem.Cloud supercomputer has entered the global TOP500 ranking (86th place). In the Government AI Readiness Index 2025, Kazakhstan rose to 60th place out of 195 countries, improving by 16 positions in one year. In the UN E-Government Development Index, the country ranks 24th out of 193, and first among developing landlocked countries. Additionally, in January 2025, Kazakhstan climbed 8 positions in the mobile internet speed ranking by Ookla, reaching 49th place.
