The Kazakh junior chess team won a record number of medals at the World Championship

On April 20, 2026, in Vrnjačka Banja, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Serbia, Madi Atamkulov, paid a working visit to the city, where he took part in events held the FIDE World Youth Rapid and Blitz Championship.

The Ambassador met with the Kazakh junior chess team and expressed support for the young athletes, highlighting each player's contribution to promoting the country’s image and reputation as a sporting nation, while particularly emphasizing the importance of developing intellectual sports.

To mark the opening of the competition, the Ambassador made a symbolic first move, officially launching the tournament games.

During the visit, a meeting was also held with the President of the Chess Federation of Serbia, Andrija Jorgić, during which the parties exchanged views on cooperation and sharing experience to further develop the sport.

Mr. Jorgić expressed interest in organizing team matches between Kazakhstan and Serbia in the future.

It was emphasized that mutual team visits contribute to strengthening friendly relations between Kazakhstan and Serbia.

Following the tournament, the Kazakh team demonstrated a high level of preparation and achieved significant success, winning 21 medals, nine of which were gold.
