On the occasion of the 81st anniversary of the Great Victory, a solemn wreath-laying ceremony was held in the Serbian capital at the “Liberators of Belgrade” Memorial.

The Embassy of Kazakhstan in Serbia honored the memory of fallen Kazakhstani soldiers with a minute of silence.

The ceremony took place at the memorial complex dedicated to the soldiers of the Soviet Army and the fighters of the Yugoslav People’s Liberation Army who fell during the liberation of Belgrade. In tribute to the fallen heroes, the National Anthem of the Republic of Kazakhstan was played, and the honor guard paid respect to their memory.

On this commemorative day, Kazakh diplomats also took part in official wreath-laying ceremonies at monuments to Soviet liberator soldiers in the cities of Subotica and Zrenjanin.

Kazakhstan’s participation in the liberation of Yugoslavia carries special historical significance: the 73rd Guards Rifle Division, formed on the territory of Kazakhstan, fought heroically in the battles for Belgrade.

To date, the names of around 200 Kazakhstan soldiers who were killed or went missing in battles on the territory of the former Yugoslavia have been identified.
