On May 8 and 9, diplomats of the Embassy of Kazakhstan took part in commemorative events marking the 81st anniversary of the Victory over Fascism in Bratislava.
At the Slavín Memorial, representatives of the Slovak state authorities, diplomats, and members of the public laid flowers at the monument to the Soviet liberating soldiers who fell in the battles for the liberation of Slovakia.
On May 10, Ambassador of Kazakhstan Zh. Saginova participated in a ceremonial memorial event in the city of Liptovský Mikuláš, which during the Second World War was one of the centers of the anti-fascist movement and the Slovak National Uprising.
The event was attended by the President of the Slovak Republic Peter Pellegrini, Prime Minister Robert Fico, Speaker of the National Council Richard Raši, members of the diplomatic corps, and war veterans, who honored the memory of the fallen heroes with a minute of silence and by laying wreaths at the Háj-Nicovô Memorial.
For reference: The Slavín Memorial Complex is one of the largest memorials in Europe and the principal memorial dedicated to Soviet soldiers in Slovakia. It was inaugurated in 1960 at the site of a military burial ground containing the remains of 6,845 soldiers and officers of the Red Army who died during the liberation of Slovakia in the spring of 1945.
The Háj-Nicovô Military Memorial in Liptovský Mikuláš is a historical complex dedicated to the memory of 4,563 Soviet and Czechoslovak soldiers who lost their lives during the liberation of the city in the Second World War.
