Kazakhstan and WIPO Strengthening Cooperation on Artificial Intelligence

Geneva, 13 May 2026 – A meeting was held at the headquarters of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) between H.E. Mr. Kairat Torebayev, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and international economic organizations, and Mr. Hasan Kleib, Deputy Director General of WIPO. The parties discussed promising areas of cooperation between the Republic of Kazakhstan and WIPO in the fields of intellectual property, digital technologies, and artificial intelligence.
Special attention was given to the implementation of joint projects in the areas of artificial intelligence and intellectual property, as well as to expanding Kazakhstan's participation in WIPO's international initiatives.
The parties also held a dedicated discussion on the further implementation of Kazakhstan's project entitled "Digital Transformation of the Examination of Industrial Property Objects Based on Artificial Intelligence." Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to continue negotiations and consultations at the technical level with WIPO's relevant departments.
In addition, the participants discussed preparations for the upcoming WIPO Global Forum on Intellectual Property and Artificial Intelligence, scheduled to take place in November this year.
Another dedicated topic of the discussions was the preparation for the WIPO General Assembly, to be held from 7 to 15 July this year, during which the official opening of the National Exhibition of the Republic of Kazakhstan is planned.
Representatives of WIPO also noted Kazakhstan's significant progress in digitalization, the development of public services, and the implementation of artificial intelligence technologies, expressing interest in further strengthening cooperation in these areas.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their mutual interest in further developing cooperation and implementing joint initiatives aimed at promoting innovation, artificial intelligence, and the development of intellectual property.
