Strengthening Relations with the New Administration of Strasbourg

Strasbourg, May 21, 2026 – Consul General Anel Bakytbekkyzy held a meeting with the Mayor of Strasbourg, Catherine Trautmann, and discussed prospects for cooperation across various areas.
At the beginning of the conversation, having congratulated the French mayor on her election as Mayor last March, the Kazakh diplomat briefed counterpart on the ongoing modernization of Kazakhstan's political system, including the adoption of a new Constitution. Having presented materials in French containing information on the State's measures to improve public administration and strengthen democratic principles, A.Bakytbekkyzy provided detailed information on efforts to reinforce the balance between branches of government and expand mechanisms for public participation, thereby establishing an institutional foundation for the country’s further development under the leadership of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
Ms. Trautmann was also briefed on the development of Kazakhstan’s economy, its key indicators, and the country’s national innovation potential. Emphasizing the favorable conditions being created in Kazakhstan for foreign business and investment, the Consul General invited the Alsace administration to expand partnerships with the regions of Kazakhstan.
As part of efforts to enhance humanitarian cooperation, initiatives were proposed to the Mayor of Strasbourg regarding the organization of joint exhibitions, fairs, and concert programs featuring cultural and artistic groups from Kazakh regions. These events would provide residents and visitors of the Diplomatic capital of Europe with an opportunity to become acquainted with the rich Kazakh culture and traditions. Within this, the Mayor was informed on International Symposium «The Golden Horde as a Model of Steppe Civilization: History, Archaeology, Culture, Identity» recently held in Astana.
In turn, the Mayor of the Grand Est capital expressed appreciation for the intention to establish close cooperation with the city’s new administration and confirmed her readiness to review submitted draft bilateral documents aimed at promoting interregional cooperation.
Particular interest was also shown to Kazakhstan's experience in digitalization of public services, as well as effective use of artificial intelligence in public administration, economy and social processes.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Ms.Bakytbekkyzy informed the Mayor about major international events and significant commemorative dates being held in Kazakhstan, while also expressing readiness to organize a visit of a French delegation to the country.
Strasbourg - the largest city in the Alsace and the capital of French Grand Est, with a metropolitan population of approximately 500,000. It hosts several major European institutions, including the Council of Europe, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the European Court of Human Rights etc.
