⚖️ From Jealousy to Community Service: Nearly a Thousand Kazakhstanis Serving Sentences Through Labor

Since the beginning of the year, more than 2,300 people sentenced to community service have been registered with the probation services of the criminal enforcement system in Kazakhstan. Today, nearly a thousand individuals convicted of criminal misdemeanors and minor offenses are serving their court-ordered hours for the benefit of society.

Those sentenced perform tasks such as cleaning streets, parks, courtyards, and playgrounds, as well as landscaping and improving public areas. These jobs do not require special education or qualifications. They work no more than four hours a day under the supervision of probation service officers.

One such case occurred in the Pavlodar region. A man, jealous of his aunt’s new suitor, inflicted several minor injuries on him during a conflict. The court sentenced him to 60 hours of community service.

During the course of his sentence, the man completed all assigned hours, committed no violations, and was removed from the probation service register. According to officials, he learned his lesson and reconsidered his behavior.

The Committee of the Criminal Enforcement System notes that the main purpose of community service is to rehabilitate offenders through labor and prevent repeat offenses.
