The implementation of a labeling and traceability system for footwear products continues in Kazakhstan. The primary goal of introducing this labeling system is to ensure transparency in the supply chain, protect consumers from counterfeit products, and create a level playing field for legitimate businesses.

According to the Rules for the Labeling and Traceability of Footwear Products, approved by Order No. 518 of the Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated September 30, 2021, all footwear products subject to mandatory labeling must have a unique DataMatrix identification code that allows tracking the product’s path from the manufacturer or importer to the end consumer.   

Labeling ensures full control over the movement of footwear products at every stage of the supply chain. Information on the production, import, storage, sale, and removal of goods from circulation is recorded in the Information System for Marking and Traceability of Goods (IS MTP). This significantly reduces the risk of illegal products entering the market.

For consumers, the marking serves as an additional guarantee of the quality and authenticity of the product. Using mobile apps and verification tools, citizens can verify the legality of the products they purchase and obtain information about the goods.

Participants in the footwear supply chain—manufacturers, importers, wholesalers, and retailers—are required to comply with legal requirements regarding the labeling and traceability of goods. The sale of unlabeled footwear is prohibited.

The Zhetisu Regional Department of State Revenue reminds businesses of the need to comply with the laws of the Republic of Kazakhstan regarding product labeling. Faithful compliance with these requirements contributes to the development of legitimate business, the protection of consumer rights, and greater transparency in the country’s economy.
