Brasília, June 8, 2026 – The Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Brazil, Bolat Nussupov, visited the Embassy of Uruguay and met with his Uruguayan counterpart, Ambassador Rodolfo Nin Novoa.
During the meeting, the parties discussed current issues related to bilateral relations between the two countries. In particular, they reviewed preparations for the second round of inter-ministerial consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, scheduled to take place in Astana later this year, as well as the forthcoming signing of an Agreement on the Mutual Exemption of Visa Requirements for holders of diplomatic and official passports.
The parties highly appreciated the activities of the first Honorary Consulate of Kazakhstan in Uruguay, opened in Montevideo in 2024, and welcomed the establishment of the Uruguay–Kazakhstan Parliamentary Friendship Group within the Parliament of Uruguay. They also expressed mutual interest in expanding bilateral cooperation in livestock breeding, including cattle genetics, selection technologies, and breeding practices.
The Uruguayan side proposed considering the possibility of officially accrediting the Embassy of Kazakhstan to Uruguay on a non-resident basis, in line with the principle of reciprocity. At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties agreed to maintain regular working contacts between the diplomatic missions of the two countries.
It is worth noting that Ambassador Rodolfo Nin Novoa, currently Uruguay’s Ambassador to Brazil, visited Astana in October 2019 in his capacity as Uruguay’s Minister of Foreign Affairs to participate in the World Cancer Leaders’ Summit.
For reference: The first round of political consultations between Kazakhstan and Uruguay took place in May 2024 during the visit of Kazakhstan’s First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kairat Umarov, to Montevideo.
