Akim of the region Murat Ergeshbayev met with the President of JSC "Petro Kazakhstan Kumkol Resources" Chen Dayu and the General Director of the company Zhong Feichao. The meeting discussed the investment potential of the region and prospects for the development of the mining and metallurgical industry.
The head of the region noted that the volume of the region's mineral resource base provides wide opportunities for attracting investments. Today, the region is rich in minerals that are of strategic importance for the development of renewable energy sources. It contains 66% of vanadium reserves, 16% of zinc, 11% of lead, and about 15% of uranium in Kazakhstan.
Special attention at the meeting was paid to the project for the development of the polymetallic deposit of JSC "Shalkiya Zinc". This deposit is among the top five largest in the world in terms of zinc reserves, with total reserves of 104 million tons.
As part of the project, an underground mine with an annual ore production of 4 million tons will be launched, creating 1,500 new jobs.
The total investment volume is 414.7 billion tenge. Currently, the construction of the underground mine and the necessary engineering infrastructure facilities has been fully completed. Next year, it is planned to begin construction of a modern mining and processing plant and a tailings storage facility.
After commissioning, the enterprise will steadily produce concentrates in demand in domestic and foreign markets. Furthermore, it will become one of the major production centers that will give impetus to the development of energy, logistics, and mechanical engineering in the region.
