On June 16, 2026, the Tourism Department, under the chairmanship of East Kazakhstan Region Akim Nurymbet Saktaganov, held a meeting on the development of the region’s tourism industry.

During the meeting, current issues related to tourism development, improving the quality of tourism services, and creating new attractions for visitors to the region were discussed.

Particular attention was paid to the development of cultural tourism. The Akim of the region instructed the relevant authorities to conduct an audit of the tourism potential of museums, theaters, and historical and cultural sites, and to identify the most promising routes and attractions capable of drawing tourists from other regions of Kazakhstan and from abroad. Issues related to the modernization of museum infrastructure, improving public access to cultural sites, and involving local artisans in the production of souvenir products reflecting the rich historical and cultural heritage of East Kazakhstan were also discussed.

The prospects for the development of sports tourism were considered as a separate agenda item. It was noted that the region has significant potential for hosting national and international competitions, as well as training camps. Following the meeting, instructions were given to develop a long-term program for attracting major sporting events and to prepare proposals for the development of the necessary infrastructure in the cities and districts of the region.

The comprehensive development of cultural, ecological, sports, and event tourism will strengthen the position of East Kazakhstan Region as one of the country’s leading tourist destinations and create additional opportunities for economic growth and investment attraction.
