Cooperation in the Nuclear Energy Sector Discussed

Brasília, June 17, 2026 – The Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Brazil, Bolat Nussupov, held a meeting with Ney Zanella, President of Núcleo Brasil.
The parties noted their mutual interest in cooperation in the fields of nuclear energy, exchange of expertise, consulting services, as well as uranium exploration and mining. The Kazakh Ambassador emphasized the long- standing and successful cooperation between the two countries in supplying Kazakh uranium to Brazil’s nuclear power plants.
The Kazakh diplomat briefed his counterpart on the country’s current socio-economic development, including the advancement of Kazakhstan’s nuclear industry and plans for the construction of the country’s first nuclear power plant.
Mr. Zanella informed the Ambassador about the results of his visit toAstana on May 27–29 of this year, during which negotiations were held with JSC NAC Kazatomprom on cooperation in the exchange of expertise in the nuclear sector. The discussions also covered opportunities for establishing a joint venture.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue dialogue with JSC NAC Kazatomprom on several areas of mutual interest involving Kazakh and Brazilian experts, as well as to organize a visit of the Kazakh company to Brazil.
For reference: The private company Núcleo Brasil Energia Participações (NBEPar), headquartered in São Paulo, was established in 2024 to structure the nuclear sector of the Diamante Group, which operates in the thermoelectric power generation industry. The company focuses on building partnerships with public and private entities to support the nuclear energy supply chain in Brazil.
Ney Zanella previously served as a board member of Brazilian state- owned companies involved in the nuclear sector, including INB (Indústrias Nucleares do Brasil) and Amazul. Brazil currently operates two nuclear power plants: Angra 1 and Angra
