Prospects for interparliamentary cooperation between Kazakhstan and Brazil discussed

Brasília, June 17, 2026 – A meeting was held between the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan, Bolat Nussupov, and Senator of the National Congress of Brazil, Head of the Brazil–Kazakhstan Parliamentary Friendship Group of the Federal Senate, Chico Rodrigues.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the key aspects of bilateral interparliamentary cooperation and reaffirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening it.

The Ambassador of Kazakhstan informed his counterpart about the large-scale political reforms currently underway in the country, including the entry into force of the new Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan on July 1, 2026, the upcoming elections to the unicameral Kurultai, and the formation of the “People’s Council of Kazakhstan”. It was emphasized that these processes would mark an important milestone in the country’s political development and represent the final stage of the comprehensive modernization of key state institutions.

The Brazilian Senator highly praised the constitutional reforms taking place in Kazakhstan and wished success to the country and its people in the forthcoming Kurultai elections. At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties discussed the possibility of holding another joint meeting of the Kazakhstan–Brazil parliamentary friendship groups later this year, taking into account the renewal of their memberships.

For reference: The first meeting of the Kazakhstan–Brazil Friendship Group of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Brazil–Kazakhstan Friendship Group of the Federal Senate of the National Congress of the Federative Republic of Brazil took place on September 13, 2021, via videoconference. The Kazakh delegation was headed by Dauren Adilbekov, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Economic Policy, Innovative Development and Entrepreneurship and Head of the Kazakhstan–Brazil Friendship Group. The Brazilian side was represented by Chico Rodrigues, Head of the Brazil–Kazakhstan Friendship Group and Senator of the Federal Senate.

The second meeting of the friendship groups was held on September 25, 2023, in Astana. The Kazakh side was headed by Senator Sultanbek Makezhanov, while the Brazilian side was led by Senator Chico Rodrigues of the Federal Senate of the National Congress of Brazil.
