On June 15, 2026, the headquarters of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM) hosted a meeting between CGEM President Mehdi Tazi and ambassadors of Asia-Pacific states accredited to the Kingdom of Morocco. The event brought together heads of diplomatic missions of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Australia, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines.
Opening the meeting, Mr. Tazi outlined the Kingdom’s socioeconomic development trajectory, highlighting the resilience of the Moroccan economy and the country's strategic position as a bridge between Africa, Europe and the Arab world. The CGEM President underscored the importance of establishing bilateral business councils with those Asian states where such structures have yet to be set up, describing them as the most effective instrument for translating political dialogue into concrete commercial projects.
The Asia-Pacific ambassadors acknowledged positive momentum in their respective bilateral relations with Morocco, while noting that the accumulated partnership potential remains largely untapped. The diplomats put forward several concrete proposals to broaden trade and economic ties, including stepped-up business contacts, joint business forums and the creation of sectoral working groups in priority areas.
A highlight of the meeting was the address by the Dean of the Asia-Pacific Group, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Morocco Saulekul Sailaukyzy, who on behalf of her colleagues emphasized the vast potential of Asia-Morocco cooperation and called for sustained, systematic efforts to realize it.
Ambassador Sailaukyzy substantiated her points with concrete examples from Kazakh-Moroccan practice, noting that since the opening of Kazakhstan’s Embassy in Morocco in 2021, bilateral trade turnover has grown by 68%, surpassing 460 million dollars last year, while the visa-free regime introduced between the two countries has opened broad opportunities for business travel and tourism for citizens on both sides.
Turning to the institutional dimension of bilateral cooperation, the Ambassador highlighted the establishment of the Kazakhstan-Morocco Business Council, whose inaugural session is set to take place in Casablanca in July, under the auspices of CGEM, with the participation of a high-level Kazakh business delegation.
On the sidelines of the event, Ambassador Sailaukyzy held a separate meeting with CGEM President Mehdi Tazi, during which the parties’ discussed preparations for the first session of the Business Council. The Ambassador also introduced the CGEM President to investment opportunities available in Kazakhstan across various sectors and outlined a number of promising projects that could be pursued within the framework of bilateral cooperation.
The meeting reaffirmed the growing strategic interest of the Asian business community in the Moroccan market and marked a new chapter in the dialogue between the business circles of the two regions. The parties agreed to sustain the momentum and give the dialogue tangible substance in the form of joint projects, investments and mutually beneficial agreements.
