A three-day regional workshop on the use of mobile positioning data for official statistics has began at the UN Plaza in Almaty. The event is organized by the Kazakhstan Agency of International Development “KazAID” in cooperation with the Bureau of National Statistics of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and the Asian Development Bank.            

The seminar brought together representatives of the national statistical services of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, as well as Indonesia, one of the leading statistical offices in the field of using mobile data for official statistics.            

Welcoming the  participants of the seminar, KazAID Deputy Chairman of the Board O. Syzdykov highlighted that KazAID considers a support in projects on statistics and data as a contribution to the sustainable development of the region. This event was a continuation of the Agency's joint initiatives being implemented in partnership with the Bureau of National Statistics to develop regional cooperation and expand the use of modern data sources to improve the quality of official statistics in the region.            

The speakers of the the seminar will be representatives from the Bureau of National Statistics of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Central Bureau of Statistics of Indonesia, who will share their successful experiences in implementing innovative data sources into national statistical systems with representatives of partner countries.
