Brasília, June 24, 2026 - A roundtable titled “Middle Corridor: The Caspian Bridge for Brazil’s Trade with the South Caucasus and Central Asia Region” was held at the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency ApexBrasil.
The main objective of the event was the presentation of the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor (TMTM, Middle Corridor), as well as cooperation on the joint use of this trade route to increase cargo flows from Brazil to Central Asia and the South Caucasus, and in the opposite direction back to South America.
Opening remarks at the forum were delivered by the President of ApexBrasil Laudemir Müller, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Brazil Bolat Nussupov, the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Brazil Rashad Novruz, the Director for Economic Affairs at Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sofia Hauschild, and the President of the “Brazil–Kazakhstan” Chamber of Commerce and Industry Cassiano Viana.
In his speech, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan noted that 85% of cargo flow between China and Europe passes through Kazakhstan via the Middle Corridor. In recent years, transport volumes along this route have increased more than fivefold, while container transportation alone grew by 36% in 2025.
The Kazakh diplomat also recalled that during the official visit of Brazil’s Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira to Astana on May 11 this year, this topic was on the negotiation agenda. In particular, discussions focused on expanding the use of the route to increase cargo transportation from Brazil to Kazakhstan and raising bilateral trade between Kazakhstan and Brazil to 1 billion USD.
During the meeting, representatives of the embassies of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan in Brazil delivered interactive presentations on the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor and exchanged views on broader use of this route in the trade and economic relations among the three countries.
At the end of the event, an agreement was reached to hold a transport and logistics forum in São Paulo in the autumn of this year, with the participation of industry associations, transnational organizations, and companies from all countries involved in the Middle Corridor project.
For reference: ApexBrasil is Brazil’s official government agency responsible for promoting Brazilian products and services in international markets and supporting foreign investment. On May 11, 2026, during the official visit of Brazil’s Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira to Astana, a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation was signed between KAZAKH INVEST and ApexBrasil.
