On the participation of the Delegation of Kazakhstan in the 11th International Conference “Our Ocean” (Our Ocean Conference)

Mombasa, June 18, 2026 — The Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Kenya, Barlybay Sadykov, participated in the 11th "Our Ocean" Conference, which took place in the city of Mombasa.

This conference serves as a key global platform for discussing the conservation of marine ecosystems, sustainable development of the blue economy, combating climate change, and ensuring the environmental security of water resources. Participation in the forum underscores the country’s commitment to global environmental initiatives and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

On the sidelines of the conference, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan held a series of working meetings aimed at strengthening international and Kazakhstan-Kenya cooperation.

Specifically, meetings were held with Peter Thomson, the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for the Ocean, and Moses Vilakati, the Commissioner (Minister) of the African Union Commission for Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy and Sustainable Environment. During these discussions, the Ambassador briefed the participants on the initiative of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, to establish a specialized international water organization under the auspices of the UN as part of the UN-80 reform process.

Furthermore, meetings took place with Ali Hassan Joho, the Minister of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs of Kenya; Lee Kinyanjui, the Minister of Investments, Trade and Industry and William Ruto, the Chairman of the Kenya Ports Authority. During these talks, the parties discussed the practical implementation of the agreements reached during the state visit of the President of Kenya, William Ruto to Astana on May 19–20, 2026.

The participation of the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the "Our Ocean" conference and the meetings held provided an opportunity to discuss the strengthening of bilateral dialogue between Astana and Nairobi, as well as prospects for cooperation in trade, the transit-logistics sector, and to promote Astana’s international initiatives among the forum participants.
