New Procedure for Importing Gadgets: IMEI Code Is Mandatory When Declaring

The State Revenue Department for Almaty informs about changes to the rules for moving mobile devices across the customs border of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
Starting from April 19, 2026, amendments approved by Decision No. 34 of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission entered into force. From now on, individuals importing devices for personal use are required to register their unique international identifier in customs documents.
What Citizens Need to Know
When completing a passenger customs declaration, the IMEI code must be indicated in the field “Name of Goods and Description” for cellular communication devices.
This requirement applies to the following categories of gadgets:
smartphones and mobile phones;
tablets with cellular connectivity;
any other devices that use mobile communication networks and have an individual IMEI code.
The indication of the unique code is necessary for the subsequent identification and verification of the device in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of communications and customs regulation.
Risks and Liability
Please note that the submission of incomplete or inaccurate information during customs declaration entails liability measures provided for by the current legislation of the EAEU and the Republic of Kazakhstan.
To avoid delays at the border, citizens are advised to check the IMEI code of the imported gadget in advance. It can be found on the box, on the device body, or in the device settings. Citizens should ensure that the code is accurately entered in the passenger customs declaration.
