Geneva, June 30, 2026 – The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, in cooperation with the United Nations Office at Geneva, co-organized the international photo exhibition "Not a Woman's Job? Women Leaders of Countries, Societies, and Communities," which opened at the Palais des Nations.

The exhibition brings together photographs and stories of women whose hard work and leadership make significant contributions to the development of nations, societies, and local communities. The project aims to demonstrate that leadership knows no gender boundaries, and that the full participation of women in decision-making processes, diplomacy, public governance, business, science, culture, and civil society is an essential prerequisite for building more resilient, just, and inclusive societies.

This year, the exhibition received a widespread response from the international community. More than 45 permanent missions submitted photographic materials showcasing the role of women in public and political life, peacebuilding, humanitarian action, education, culture, and local government.

Speaking at the official opening ceremony, the Kazakh side emphasized that the exhibition, through photographs and personal stories, serves as a reminder of the critical role women play in shaping the future of states, societies, and local communities. It was noted that respect for women leaders is deeply rooted in the historical and cultural heritage of Kazakhstan. A powerful symbol of this is the legendary Queen Tomyris, whose wisdom, courage, and state leadership continue to inspire new generations.

Special attention was paid to the ongoing political and institutional reforms in Kazakhstan, enshrined in the updated Constitution, as well as the state's consistent measures to expand women's participation in public life, strengthen mechanisms for protecting their rights, and promote the principles of gender equality and equal opportunity.

The opening ceremony was attended by heads of diplomatic missions, leaders of international organizations, and representatives of civil society and the media. Participants highlighted the significance of the exhibition as an international platform for recognizing the achievements of women leaders, exchanging best practices, and promoting the principles of gender equality and women's empowerment in decision-making processes.
