Kazakhstan continues to strengthen its position in the global sustainable development agenda. According to the Sustainable Development Report 2026, the country ranked 67th among 169 countries in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Index, rising 3 positions compared to last year. In 2025, Kazakhstan ranked 70th among 167 countries.

According to the results of the rating for 2026, it was possible to outperform a number of G-20 countries, including Indonesia, Mexico, Turkey, India and Saudi Arabia.

For example, progress on SDG 6 "Clean water and sanitation" remains one of the most significant achievements. The population's access to basic drinking water services increased from 95.4% to 97.8%, fresh water intake decreased, and the volume of water contained in imported goods, the production of which requires the use of scarce water resources, decreased.

At the same time, steady progress has been noted in key areas of the SDGs, including the development of the social sphere, infrastructure modernization, stimulating innovation and improving the well-being of the population. In addition, Kazakhstan became the only Central Asian state included in the SDSN expert survey on the integration of the SDGs into public policy.

Improving positions in the global ranking confirms the effectiveness of government policy and commitment to the principles of sustainable, inclusive and long-term development.
