Exchange of Views on Electoral Legislation

Brasília, July 17, 2026 – Ambassador Bolat Nussupov visited Brazil’s Central Electoral Commission and met with Mr. Maurício Medeiros de Assis, Advisor to the President of the Superior Electoral Court of Brazil (Tribunal Superior Eleitoral, TSE).

During the meeting, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan briefed his counterpart on the large-scale political reforms being implemented in the country, including the entry into force of the new Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan on
July 1, 2026, the upcoming elections of deputies to the unicameral Kurultai, and the formation of the Kazakhstan People’s Council. The Brazilian side was also informed about the preparations for Kazakhstan’s parliamentary elections, including the formation of party lists and the ongoing candidate nomination process.

During the meeting, the Ambassador conveyed an invitation from the Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nurlan Abdirov, to the President of the Superior Electoral Court of Brazil, Cássio Nunes Marques, inviting him to participate as an international observer in the elections of deputies to the Kurultai, scheduled for August 23, 2026.

For his part, Mr. Maurício Medeiros de Assis briefed the Ambassador on the preparations for Brazil’s presidential elections, which are scheduled to take place on October 4, 2026. Conveying words of support on behalf of the President of the Superior Electoral Court, he highly praised the constitutional reforms being carried out in Kazakhstan and wished the leadership and people of the Republic of Kazakhstan every success in implementing the planned reforms and conducting the parliamentary elections.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening the friendly cooperation between Kazakhstan and Brazil in the field of election organization and administration, exchanging best practices and expertise in electoral management, and discussed prospects for reciprocal participation of representatives of the electoral authorities of both countries as international observers during upcoming electoral campaigns.
