Astana, 24 July 2026 – First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerzhan Ashikbayev held a meeting with Ambassador of the Republic of India to Kazakhstan Y.K. Sailas Thangal.

During the meeting, the parties discussed issues of the Kazakhstan-India strategic partnership and reaffirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening political dialogue and expanding mutually beneficial cooperation.

Particular attention was paid to cooperation within BRICS. Yerzhan Ashikbayev congratulated the Indian side on its 2026 BRICS Chairship, held under the theme “Building Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability,” and expressed confidence in the successful implementation of its agenda.

Kazakhstan’s readiness, as a BRICS Partner Country, to make a practical contribution to cooperation in such priority areas as trade and investment, transport connectivity, digitalization, artificial intelligence, energy and sustainable development was emphasized.

The parties also exchanged views on preparations for the 18th BRICS Summit, to be held in New Delhi on 12-13 September this year, including its substantive agenda and certain organizational aspects.

As part of the bilateral agenda, the parties considered prospects for expanding trade, economic and investment cooperation, including in energy, transport and logistics, critical minerals, digital technologies, pharmaceuticals and agriculture.

In the context of multilateral cooperation, Yerzhan Ashikbayev briefed his counterpart on the initiatives of President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to establish an International Water Organization, an International Agency for Biological Security and a Global Coalition of Countries for Primary Health Care, expressing hope for India’s support. The parties also exchanged views on the further development of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).

Following the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their readiness to continue working together to further strengthen the Kazakhstan-India strategic partnership.
