August 7–17, 2025: Mangystau Athlete Zhanibek Abu-Bakir Became Champion of the 12th World Games

At the 12th World Games, held in Chengdu, China, from August 7 to 17, 2025, Mangystau athlete Zhanibek Abu-Bakir won the gold medal and became the champion in jiu-jitsu.

According to the Sports Committee of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the reigning world champion competed in the under-69 kg weight category and defeated Farid Ben Ali in the final by 12–9.

Earlier in the competition, Kazakhstan's Aslan Kanatbek earned a bronze medal in the under-62 kg jiu-jitsu division.

Zhanibek Abu-Bakir's victory marked one of Kazakhstan's most notable achievements in the history of the World Games. Before this, Kazakhstan's medalists at the event included Galina Duvanova, who won silver in 2022, and Aizhan Kukuzova, who claimed bronze in 2009.
