Kazakhstan and Algeria expand cooperation in the energy sector

Algiers, 13 August 2026 – The Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Algeria Anuarbek Akhmetov, held meeting with the President - Chief Executive Officer of Sonelgaz Group, Abderrahmane Sahri.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state and prospects for the development of Kazakh-Algerian cooperation in the energy sector, as well as opportunities for implementing joint projects involving specialized companies from both countries.
Particular attention was paid to promising areas of cooperation in the fields of electric power, gas infrastructure, energy technologies, modernization of production facilities, as well as the development of renewable energy sources.
The Ambassador A.Akhmetov highlighted the significant potential for expanding mutually beneficial cooperation between Kazakhstan and Algeria in the energy sector and presented the capabilities of Kazakh companies with relevant expertise and technologies in these areas.
For his part, A.Sahri emphasized the mutual interest in establishing direct contacts between companies of the two countries, exchanging experience, and exploring specific projects of mutual interest.
Following the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their interest in further developing the partnership and agreed to continue contacts between the relevant institutions of the two countries with a view to implementing joint projects.
Sonelgaz is Algeria’s largest state-owned energy group and plays a key role in supplying the country with electricity and natural gas. The Sonelgaz Group comprises specialized companies responsible for electricity generation, electricity and gas transmission, their distribution, renewable energy, engineering services, as well as the manufacture of electrical and gas equipment.
