When crossing the border of Kazakhstan, it is important to know how much cash and personal belongings you are allowed to carry.

It is prohibited to export foreign cash currency in an amount exceeding $10,000 USD (or the equivalent in another currency) from Kazakhstan. It is also forbidden to export gold bars, investment coins made of gold and silver, and refined gold weighing over 100 grams.

If the amount of cash exceeds $10,000 USD upon entry or exit, it must be declared in the custom declaration.

These rules regarding currency and declaration do not apply to travel between countries of the Eurasian Economic Union.

If you cross the border no more than once a month, one person may import:

  • No more than 2 mobile phones

  • No more than 2 tablets

  • 1 laptop

  • Up to 5 pieces of jewelry

  • 1 fur item of the same type and size

  • 1 bicycle

  • 1 baby stroller

These restrictions do not apply to personal items that you have already used.

To avoid delays at the border and fines, the State Revenue Department for Almaty recommends checking the allowance limits in advance and complying with declaration rules.
