On August 23, 2026, Kazakhstan held elections to its new unicameral Parliament — the Kurultai of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
According to the final results released by the Central Election Commission, 9,351,539 of the 12,623,289 registered voters cast their ballots, bringing voter turnout to 74.08 percent.
The electoral process was observed by 777 representatives from 42 countries and 13 international organizations, as well as approximately 80,000 observers from 258 domestic organizations. The broad presence of international and domestic observers contributed to the transparency of the electoral process. Polling stations operated normally throughout election day, and no significant violations capable of affecting the free expression of voters’ will or the outcome of the elections were reported.
Five political parties surpassed the five-percent electoral threshold.
The Adilet Party received 6,528,948 votes, or 71.17 percent. The Auyl Party received 574,621 votes (6.26 percent), followed by Respublica with 509,631 votes (5.56 percent), the Ak Zhol Democratic Party of Kazakhstan with 478,083 votes (5.21 percent), and the Nationwide Social Democratic Party with 469,058 votes (5.11 percent).
As a result, five political parties will be represented in the new Kurultai, maintaining multiparty representation in Kazakhstan’s highest legislative body.
The high voter turnout reflected strong public interest in the country’s ongoing political transformation and the establishment of a new parliamentary system.
The creation of a unicameral Kurultai with expanded powers is a key element of Kazakhstan’s broader political modernization. These elections marked an important milestone in the country’s institutional renewal and the continued development of its political system.
Strong voter participation, a competitive multiparty electoral process, and the broad presence of domestic and international observers further underscored public engagement in Kazakhstan’s ongoing political modernization.
The next stage will be the formal determination of the composition of the new Kurultai based on the election results, followed by the commencement of its work within Kazakhstan’s updated institutional framework.
