An apartment, private house, country house or garage is not only property, but also comes with certain tax obligations. In 2026, it is particularly important for property owners to know how and when property tax is paid.
Since January 1, 2026, a new Tax Code has been in effect in Kazakhstan, establishing the procedure for taxation of individuals’ property. The relevant provisions are set out in Chapter 67 of the Tax Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Who is required to pay property tax?
Property tax is paid by individuals who own real estate that is subject to taxation. This includes, in particular, residential houses, apartments, country houses, garages and other real estate specified by tax legislation.
Owning real estate does not mean that the owner has to calculate the tax amount independently. First and foremost, it is important to check the tax assessment in a timely manner and make the payment by the established deadline.
Individuals must pay property tax no later than October 1 of the year following the reporting tax period. Thus, in 2026, property tax is paid for the relevant previous tax period. Therefore, it is advisable not to postpone checking your tax assessment until the last days. The earlier an owner verifies whether the tax has been assessed and whether the amount is correct, the easier it will be to resolve any potential issues in a timely manner.
Where can you check the tax amount?
Today, there is no need to visit a tax authority to obtain this information. Individuals can receive information about upcoming tax payments electronically. The State Revenue Committee provides relevant online services, including information on tax amounts due for payment by October 1. Tax obligations can also be checked through mobile services and banking applications, where taxpayers can view and pay their taxes.
What if the property information has changed?
Particular attention should be paid to situations where the owner has sold real estate, acquired a new property, changed information regarding ownership rights, or discovered inaccuracies in the data. In such cases, it is important not to ignore discrepancies, but to contact the relevant authorities in a timely manner to clarify the information. Up-to-date information about the real estate is important for correctly determining tax obligations.
Property tax may seem like a small annual obligation that is easy to remember at the last minute. However, timely payment of taxes is part of every property owner’s financial responsibility.
It is important to remember that a tax obligation does not end with the purchase of real estate. It continues throughout the entire period of ownership of the property. Therefore, the simple algorithm for a property owner in 2026 is:
check the tax assessment → clarify the information if necessary → pay the tax on time.
Modern electronic services allow individuals to independently monitor their tax obligations and pay taxes in a convenient way. Knowing your tax obligations is not only a legal requirement, but also an element of financial literacy. Timely payment of taxes is a simple step that helps avoid tax arrears and additional obligations. Property owners only need to regularly check their tax obligations and fulfill them on time.
