A 38-year-old resident of Semey has been evading alimony payments to his minor son for almost seven years. As a result, the total amount of debt over ten years exceeded five million tenge.

By a court decision, the man was found guilty and sentenced to one year of restriction of freedom. After the verdict came into force, the convict was registered with the probation service of the Zatonsky district of Semey.

When registering, the convicted person was explained in detail the procedure and conditions for serving the sentence, as well as the consequences of violating the restrictions established by the court. Despite the ongoing preventive work, the convict repeatedly violated the requirements of probation control: he did not appear for mandatory registration and left his place of residence at night without proper permission.

Due to systematic violations, the court decided to replace the unserved part of the punishment in the form of restriction of liberty with imprisonment for a period of seven months.

                    - I have only now realized the consequences of my irresponsible attitude.  Now my son is already 15 years old. All this time, I practically did not participate in his life and did not help him the way a father should have. Previously, it seemed to me that it was possible to postpone payments and avoid responsibility, but over time it comes to the realization that the lost years can no longer be returned. The hardest part is realizing that the child grew up without my support. Today I understand that alimony is not just money, but taking care of the future of my own child. I am very sorry for my actions and would like to correct my mistakes," the convict shared.

             - The convict was repeatedly given the opportunity to correct his behavior without isolation from society. Restriction of freedom is an opportunity for a person to stay in society, keep his job, maintain relationships with loved ones and prove his correction by observing the law. However, the convict systematically violated the established restrictions and ignored the requirements of the probation service. The staff repeatedly warned him about the consequences, but he did not draw the proper conclusions. In such cases, the court decides to replace the punishment with a more severe measure, evading parental duties, as well as violating the procedure for serving a sentence, entails liability provided for by law," said Yerik Userbayev, head of the probation department of the Zaton district of Semey.
