On September 25, the III Meeting of the Economic Council of the Greater Altai Regions was held in Ust-Kamenogorsk under the theme “Developing Economic Cooperation among the Greater Altai Regions: From Dialogue to the Implementation of Joint Projects.”

The meeting brought together representatives of East Kazakhstan Region, Russia’s Altai Krai and the Republic of Tuva, China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, as well as Mongolia’s Bayan-Ölgii and Khovd aimags.

The participants discussed promising areas of interregional cooperation in trade, investment, industry, agriculture, transport and tourism. Particular attention was paid to moving from the exchange of proposals to the implementation of specific joint projects.

“Golden Ring of Altai” — a new cross-border tourism route

One of East Kazakhstan’s key tourism initiatives is the creation of the international “Golden Ring of Altai” tourism route.

The proposed route is designed to connect the tourism areas of Katon-Karagay, Markakol and Zaysan in East Kazakhstan with neighboring territories of Russia, China and Mongolia. The initiative is based on the shared natural and historical-cultural heritage of the Altai region and aims to create a unified cross-border tourism product.

The development of the route will help combine the tourism resources of several countries, expand travel opportunities and create new integrated tourism products. Further cooperation is planned to jointly promote the route, strengthen interaction between tourism companies and attract visitors from the participating countries.

Business and tourism industry representatives also took part in the meeting. As part of the business programme, B2B meetings were held, providing entrepreneurs with an opportunity to establish direct contacts and discuss joint projects, investment opportunities and the development of tourism products.

Particular attention was also paid to investment and economic cooperation. East Kazakhstan presented a number of promising areas for joint projects, including industry, the agro-industrial sector, agricultural processing, mechanical engineering and logistics.

Following the meeting, the parties signed a final protocol outlining the agreements reached and further areas of cooperation, including the implementation of joint projects.

East Kazakhstan will continue working with the Greater Altai regions to develop cross-border tourism, expand business ties and promote joint tourism and investment opportunities.

The “Golden Ring of Altai” is viewed as an important initiative for bringing together the tourism potential of four countries and creating a new international tourism product across the Greater Altai region.
