Kazakhstan has confirmed its commitment to the OSCE principles

Tuesday, December 5, 2024 - The foreign Ministers of the 57 member countries of the Organization for Security and Co–operation in Europe (OSCE) gathered in Malta to participate in the 31st meeting of the OSCE Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM).
During the event, the participating States heard the results of the work of the Organization under the chairmanship of Malta in 2024, discussed issues of countering challenges and threats to security in the OSCE area, as well as ways to overcome the institutional crisis that has developed in the Organization against the background of a difficult geopolitical situation.
In his address to the participants of the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Murat Nurtleu noted the need to revive the "spirit of Helsinki" and stressed the importance of preserving the OSCE as a unique platform for inclusive dialogue on security issues in the Euro–Atlantic and Eurasian space.
He reaffirmed Kazakhstan's firm commitment to multilateral efforts to ensure security and stability in the OSCE area and its readiness to continue to contribute to strengthening the Organization and overcoming the challenges it faces.
On the eve of the 50th anniversary of the founding document of the OSCE - the Helsinki Final Act of 1975 – the Kazakh Foreign Minister noted the need for strict observance of its principles, as well as the provisions of the Astana Declaration adopted following the OSCE summit in 2010. He also called on his colleagues to adapt the OSCE to the conditions of the new security architecture that is currently being formed.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan emphasized the importance of cooperation within the framework of the economic and environmental dimension of the Organization. In this regard, he outlined the results of the "One Water Summit" held by Kazakhstan jointly with France and Saudi Arabia on December 3 this year in Riyadh.
M.Nurtleu drew attention to the need for joint efforts in the fight against climate change and invited the participating countries to participate in the UN Regional Climate Summit, which will be held in 2026 in Kazakhstan.
The main outcome of the OSCE Ministerial Council meeting was the approval of the OSCE Secretary General and the heads of key institutions of the Organization.
On the margins of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan M.Nurtleu held a number of bilateral meetings with the Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan, Ceyhun Bayramov, Belgium, Bernard Kenten, Georgia, Maka Bochorishvili, Luxembourg, Jean Asselborn, Slovakia, Juraj Blanar, Turkey, Hakan Fidan and Finland, Elina Valtonen.
During the meetings, topical issues of bilateral cooperation and cooperation within the framework of the OSCE were discussed. The sides exchanged views on the regional and global agendas. An agreement was reached to continue developing cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Kazakhstan has been an OSCE participating State since 1992. In 2010, our country assumed the OSCE chairmanship, holding a summit in that year, which culminated in the adoption of the Astana Declaration.
