In accordance with the instruction of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the procedure for appointing heads of the regional sports department has been changed. Now all candidates are required to receive the approval of the Commission acting under the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. The work of the Commission is headed by Minister Erbol Myrzabosynov.

At a meeting with the winners of the XXXIII Summer Olympic Games, the Head of State drew attention to the problem that regions independently decide which sports to develop. In this regard, he instructed the Government to restore the management vertical in sports at all levels.

The Commission evaluates on the basis of a number of criteria, including professional experience, availability of a sports industry development plan, as well as knowledge in the field of sports science and management.

Candidates can be nominated by both local executive bodies and the Ministry. Local authorities appoint those applicants who have passed the approval of the Commission.
