A number of projects are being implemented in Shakhtinsk to help teenagers try themselves in various professions.
Since 2021, the Center for Professional Competence and Career has been operating on the basis of the Schoolchildren's Palace. This is a place where you can not only pass tests and trainings, but also talk to representatives of the profession, visit educational institutions and enterprises to better understand what you want to do in the future.
- We try to create conditions for children not only to learn more about their future profession, but also to try themselves. Career guidance work consists of diagnostics, conversations with psychologists, professional tests and meetings with experts, - says the head of the center, Maria Morozova.
As part of the "Choosing the Future" project, students in grades 10-11 can develop their professional interests and skills by studying "Auto Lectures", "Hairdresser-Make-up Artist", "Cooking Technology", "Fundamentals of Medical Knowledge" and other areas.
For two years, students not only receive theoretical knowledge, but also participate in master classes and excursions to enterprises. More than 600 students from Shakhtinsk study in these circles.
- Thanks to the course, I have determined my specialty. After graduating from school, I want to study restaurant and hotel business. I dream of opening my own Georgian restaurant, - says Viktor Protasenko, an 11th grade student at the Shokan Valikhanov school-gymnasium. - In two years, I have mastered the basics of cooking here.
In addition to classes at the center, high school students participate in specialized circles organized in conjunction with leading educational institutions of Karaganda, according to their wishes. Together with the Karaganda Medical University, the “Fundamentals of Dentistry”, “General Surgery” and “Young Criminologist” clubs were opened, and together with the Karaganda Polytechnic University, the “Architecture and Design” clubs were opened.
The “Medical Class” and “Pedagogical Class” projects are especially popular among Shakhtinsk students. They provide an opportunity not only to receive basic knowledge in the field of medicine and pedagogy, but also to undergo practical training, participate in excursions, and even conduct educational blogs.
“ Practical training helps children not only hear about the profession, but also try themselves. This increases their confidence in choosing a profession and makes it easier to adapt when entering a higher educational institution or college,” says Nikolay Onsovich, head of the Education Department of the city of Shakhtinsk. – For example, last year, 15 of our graduates received a grant on the basis of Karaganda Medical University.
It is also planned to open new areas in the Schoolchildren's Palace, such as digital and household appliance repair, shoemaking, and auto mechanics.
In total, 145 clubs in 11 areas operate in the Schoolchildren's Palace of the city of Shakhtinsk, which are attended by more than two thousand children aged 4 to 18.
