In his 2022 Address to the Nation, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev initiated the "Cozy School" program, aimed at creating modern conditions for high-quality education. Four new schools for 2,700 students will be opened in Abay region by the end of 2025. In addition, it is planned to begin construction of another school this year.
The "Cozy School" project is aimed at ensuring equal opportunities for all children in the country, regardless of their place of residence. The new schools will pay special attention not only to technical equipment, but also to creating an environment conducive to the development of students' creative and intellectual abilities. Spacious classrooms with separate sanitary facilities are provided for children with special educational needs. Emergency exits, ramps and special directional signs are installed. Psychologists, speech therapists and defectologists work in each school. One of the main features of the new schools is the presence of recreation areas for students and teachers, equipped with upholstered furniture, books, musical instruments and board games. In addition, educational institutions are equipped with modern video surveillance systems that guarantee the safety of children.
In 2024, an IT school-lyceum for 1,200 places was built in Semey. This allowed us to significantly reduce the shortage of student places in the city. The school meets modern educational standards and is equipped with new technologies. The three-story building includes physics, chemistry, biology, computer science classrooms, multimedia classrooms, a graphics and modeling room, as well as laboratories, a television studio, smart classrooms, 3D printers and robotics rooms. The school has an assembly hall for 280 seats and a dining room for 420 seats.
“Four educational institutions have undergone major renovations and are equipped with 56 modern subject classrooms in robotics, chemistry, biology, physics and STEM subjects. Improving the qualifications of teachers has also been an important step. More than 5,300 teachers have undergone free advanced training courses. Today, 38% of secondary education institutions in the Abay region are district and rural schools. 86 of them have been modernized,” said the deputy akim of the region, Zhasulan Sarsebayev.
The project also contributes to supporting Kazakhstani manufacturers. All furniture for new schools will be supplied by domestic enterprises, which will not only strengthen the national economy, but also create new jobs.
Additional jobs are being created in all regions of our country due to the construction of new educational facilities. Since 2024, 184 teachers have been provided with jobs in newly built schools (IT school-lyceum of Semey).
