This year, it is planned to carry out repair work on 152 kilometers of roads and internal roads of 53 settlements in the Zhetysu region. These include the reconstruction of 5 bridges, medium repair of 1 bridge, reconstruction of 15 km of the road leading to the Burkanbulak waterfall, reconstruction of sections 35-110 km of the "Almaty - Ust-Kamenogorsk - Lepsi - Aktogay" road, roads entering settlements, internal roads, etc. projects, - the press service of the akim of the Zhetysu region reports.
According to the regional passenger transport and highways department, since the formation of the Zhetysu region in 2023-2024, 391.4 km of roads of regional significance and internal streets of 134 settlements have been repaired. For example, in 2024, highways of republican and regional significance will be reconstructed, and major projects in the directions of "Taldykorgan-Usharal" (313 km), "Lepsy-Balkhash Lake" (27 km), "Saryozek-Koktal" (45-68 km), "Zharkent-Khorgas" (328-360 km), "Ushtobe-Kopbirlik" (78 km) will be put into operation. Thus, the share of highways of regional significance in good and satisfactory condition has been increased to 94%.
This year, it is planned to repair 152 kilometers of roads and internal roads of 53 settlements in the region. Also, this year, 2 sections of roads of republican significance in the directions of "Ushtobe - Kalpe" and "Syrymbet - "Tau Zhetysu" will be reconstructed and moderately repaired. As part of the overhaul, it is planned to build a new bridge over the Konbe River on the Saryozek-Koktal highway, strengthen the road structure of the Saryozek station bypass highway, and resurface the 21 km long (Mukry Pass section) Konayev-Taldykorgan highway. In addition, this year, medium-term repairs will continue on the roads in the directions of "Almaty region border - Saryozek village" (13 km), "Saryozek-Koktal" (112 km) and "Aidarly-Koktal" (15 km) as a transitional project from last year.
"In order to maintain the regulatory condition of the roads, automated measuring stations are being installed. 8 such stations have been installed across the region. 6 of them are located on republican highways, 2 on roads of regional significance. Such stations automatically measure the weight of trucks and monitor that they do not exceed the established limits,” the department’s message says.
Notably, last year, 24.0 million passengers were transported on highways in the region, which is an increase of about 8% compared to 2023. This figure is planned to increase this year as the quality of roads improves.
According to information from “KazAvtozhol” JSC, winter maintenance was carried out on 873 kilometers of existing roads of republican significance in the region. 72 units of owned and 10 units of rented equipment were involved in these works. The necessary stock of anti-icing material was prepared for this winter period. In addition, it should be noted that work has begun to replenish the fleet of equipment since 2023, that is, today the number of equipment here has increased from 59 to 72.
The total length of highways in the region is
3,988 km. Including 1,034 km of republican significance, 2,954 km of local significance.
