Today, a meeting of the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan Ye.Nysanbayeva with the Executive Secretary of the UNECE T. Molchan.
E.Nysanbayev expressed gratitude to the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) for joint cooperation, as well as support in the implementation of joint programs and projects in various areas in the field of environmental protection.
At the same time, T.Molchan informed about the activities of the UNECE on environmental conventions and the work on the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes. The willingness to cooperate in the framework of the Environmental Performance Review was also expressed, as well as interest in further work on the Convention on Environmental Impact Assessment in a Transboundary Context, the Convention on the Transboundary Effects of Industrial Accidents and the Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters.
In turn, the Minister confirmed his readiness to participate in events within the framework of these conventions and expressed Kazakhstan's interest in receiving technical assistance and support on further improvement of the country's environmental legislation.
At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed hope for further constructive cooperation in fulfilling Kazakhstan's obligations under international environmental conventions.
