Signing of an agreement between the A.H. Margulan Institute of Archaeology (Kazakhstan) and Inrap (France)
Within the framework of the state visit of the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to France, an agreement on cooperation in the field of archaeology was signed between the A.H. Margulan Institute of Archaeology of the Committee of Science of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the French National Institute for Preventive Archaeological Research – Inrap. This institute ensures the identification and study of archaeological sites in construction zones in France and its overseas territories (https://www.inrap.fr /).
A large number of projects related to construction and development of mineral resources are being implemented on an ongoing basis in Kazakhstan. The legislation of our country provides for a number of procedures to ensure the preservation of historical and cultural heritage sites in the developed territories. In this direction, the A.H. Margulan Institute of Archaeology of the Committee of Science of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan is constantly working to improve the scientific and methodological apparatus and participates in the modernization of the regulatory framework. As part of this work, an important component is to attract foreign experience. The French model of preventive archaeology is a successful example of the interaction of the state, business and society in the preservation of archaeological heritage.
Archaeologists of both countries see the possibility of cooperation in the regulation of archaeological work, the formation of electronic databases, the organization of storage of mass archaeological materials, etc. The signing of the agreement will contribute to ensuring the preservation of archaeological monuments in the developed territories through methodological consultations, technology exchange and joint participation of specialists in the implementation of projects of both institutions.
