Coordination Meeting of the Founding States of the Global Initiative on International Humanitarian Law Held in Geneva 07.05.2026
Geneva, 4 May 2026 – The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva, H.E. Mr. Erzhan Kazykhan, held a coordination meeting of the Permanent Representatives of the six founding States of the Global Initiative to Galvanize Political Commitment to International Humanitarian Law with the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Ms. Mirjana Spoljaric.Opening the meeting, the Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan highlighted the importance of ensuring broad compliance with international humanitarian law against the backdrop of growing international tensions and the humanitarian consequences of armed conflicts. He underlined the significance of the Global Initiative as a neutral and unifying platform aimed at strengthening the protection of civilians.ICRC President Mirjana Spoljaric briefed the participants on the progress of the Global Initiative, and noted the ongoing work to develop substantive recommendations that would confirm the commitment of States to the current IHL standards.Particular attention was given to the upcoming High-Level Conference in Jordan on 7 December 2026, which is expected to become an important political milestone and provide additional impetus to practical efforts aimed at strengthening commitment to international humanitarian law.In conclusion, the participants reaffirmed their intention to continue close interaction and coordination of further work ahead of the High-level Conference in Jordan.For reference: The Global Initiative to Galvanize Political Commitment to International Humanitarian Law was launched in September 2024 at the initiative of the International Committee of the Red Cross, with the support of six founding States – Brazil, China, France, Jordan, Kazakhstan and South Africa. Kazakhstan’s investment and tourism potential has been presented at the Swedish Parliament 07.05.2026
Stockholm, 5 May, 2026 – The third seminar on the investment and tourism potential of Central Asian countries was held at the Swedish Parliament (Riksdag). The event was organised by the Sweden–Central Asia Friendship Group, in collaboration with the Embassies of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Uzbekistan in Sweden. The session was moderated by Heinz Schögren, Chair of the Swedish Chamber of Commerce for Eurasia.Members of the Riksdag, representatives of the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, including Stefan Eriksson, Ambassador of Sweden to Kazakhstan, representatives of financial development institutions, the business and expert communities, the tourism industry, the academic and diplomatic communities, as well as members of the diplomatic corps, took part in the seminar.Björn Söder, Chair of the Friendship Group, and Tobias Andersson, Chair of the Swedish Parliament’s Committee on Industry and Trade, addressed the participants with welcoming remarks. The Swedish side noted the growing interest of Swedish business in Central Asia and emphasised that Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are at the forefront of the region’s economic and institutional reforms. The growing strategic importance of Central Asia, with its significant resource, logistical and demographic potential, was also highlighted. According to Swedish parliamentarians, the region is increasingly viewed in Sweden as a promising area for long-term cooperation in the fields of trade, investment and tourism.In his speech, Olzhas Suleimenov, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Sweden, briefed the participants about the political and economic reforms ongoing in Kazakhstan, including the adoption of a new Constitution following a nationwide referendum. Particular attention was paid to Kazakhstan’s policy of economic diversification, the development of green energy, digitalisation, artificial intelligence and sustainable transport links between Europe and Asia.Talgat Gazizov, Chairman of the Board of JSC “Kazakh Tourism”, delivered a separate presentation on Kazakhstan’s tourism potential. He noted that Kazakhstan combines a unique natural heritage, a rich nomadic culture and modern tourism opportunities, offering a wide range of destinations – from ecotourism and active holidays to cultural and educational tours of UNESCO World Heritage sites. It was emphasised that Kazakhstan is consistently developing sustainable tourism and promoting the country as a new destination for European travellers.The participants were especially interested in the talk given by the well-known Swedish traveller and explorer, Ambassador of the Snow Leopard Foundation in Kazakhstan, Johan Ernst Nilsson, who, based on his experience of travelling through 196 countries around the world, highlighted the unique combination of untouched nature, cultural heritage and authenticity found in the countries of Central Asia. Mr. Nilsson praised the efforts of the region’s countries to conserve biodiversity and restore the snow leopard population, and also spoke about his upcoming horseback expedition across Kazakhstan, dedicated to promoting the country’s nature and culture.Presentations by company representatives gave the event a practical focus. In particular, Christina Stark, member of the Board of Directors at Väderstad, announced the signing of an agreement to localise the production of high-tech agricultural machinery in Kazakhstan at the facilities of AgromashHolding KZ JSC. It was emphasised that the project was the result of active cooperation between the Kazakhstani and Swedish sides, including the support of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Sweden. Ms. Stark also noted the favourable investment climate, the sustainable development of the agro-industrial sector and the growing interest of Swedish businesses in expanding their presence in the Kazakhstani market.Dr. Svante Cornell, Director of the Institute for Security and Development Policy (ISDP), presented an analytical overview of the transformation of Central Asia as a region of emerging ‘middle powers’. Kazakhstan and Brazil Expand Cooperation in the Livestock Sector 07.05.2026
Brasília, May 6, 2026 – At the invitation of the Brazilian side, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Brazil, Bolat Nussupov, visited the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture and held a meeting with the Secretary for Trade and International Relations, Luís Renato de Alcântara Rua.The parties positively assessed the results of the visit of the delegation of Kazakh agricultural producers, led by Vice Minister of Agriculture Amangali Berdalin, during which 14 companies from Kazakhstan’s agro-industrial sector were presented.The parties discussed several aspects of the Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of livestock breeding between the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of Brazil.The signing of this document is expected to take place during the upcoming visit of the Brazilian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, to Astana on May 11 of this year, within the framework of the “Kazakhstan–Brazil” roundtable, with the participation of business representatives from both countries.It is expected that, in order to participate in this event, the Deputy Secretary for Trade and International Relations of the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Augusto Billi, will travel to Astana, where he will hold negotiations with the Kazakh side on strengthening bilateral cooperation and participate in the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Cooperation in the livestock sector.At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties positively assessed the prospects for expanding bilateral agricultural cooperation, livestock breeding, and pedigree cattle farming, as well as the establishment of specialized laboratories, expressing their readiness to provide all necessary support for the expansion of such cooperation. Однако для работы интеллектуальных систем необходима стабильная и быстрая передача данных. Создаваемая инфраструктура - это «нервная система» города, которая позволит эффективно управлять коммунальными и энергетическими сетями.Особенностью проекта стала четкая координация между всеми участниками процесса. Управление цифровизации выступает в роли методолога, направляя развитие города на основе данных. Акимат обеспечивает доступ к коммуникациям, «Кокшетау Энерго» предоставляет инфраструктуру опор, а операторы связи берут на себя техническую реализацию.Главным итогом станет ликвидация так называемых «белых пятен» - районов города, где ранее доступ к качественному интернету был ограничен. Athens, May 1, 2026 – A scientific and practical conference entitled “Kazakhstan and Greece: Historical Retrospective and Vectors of Contemporary Cooperation” was held in the capital of Greece, organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Hellenic Republic on the occasion of the Day of Unity of the People of Kazakhstan.The event was dedicated to issues related to strengthening Kazakh-Greek cooperation, the ongoing reforms in the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as the importance of interethnic harmony as one of the key foundations for the country’s sustainable development. 28 April 2026, Vienna — Mukhtar Tileuberdi, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the international organizations in Vienna, took part in the inaugural meeting of the “Group of Friends of the Global Governance Initiative.”The event brought together the heads of international organizations accredited in Vienna, including UNIDO, IAEA, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), and UNCITRAL, as well as Permanent representatives of countries that supported the initiative.The Global Governance Initiative was announced by the President of the People’s Republic of China in September 2025 at the meeting of the heads of state of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. It aims to enhance the effectiveness of the United Nations and international institutions by promoting the fundamental principles of multilateral diplomacy, including the sovereign equality of states and adherence to the rule of international law.In his remarks, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan expressed gratitude to the Chinese side for the invitation to join the Group of Friends of the Global Governance Initiative on the Vienna platform. He emphasized that President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was the first foreign head of state to support the initiative of Chinese President Xi Jinping during the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.The Ambassador also noted that the initiative aligns with Kazakhstan’s proposal to restore the principle of sovereign equality of member states within the IAEA and proposed to continue discussions on improving the Agency’s governance system within the framework of Kazakhstan’s agenda item at the IAEA Board of Governors.Participants of the meeting expressed support for China’s initiative aimed at strengthening a system of international relations based on equality, the rule of law, and mutual respect for interests, and agreed to join efforts to promote it on the Vienna platform. Kazakhstan presented the outcomes of the Regional Ecological Summit at the OSCE 06.05.2026
Vienna, April 30, 2026. At the Permanent Council meeting of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) the delegation of Kazakhstan informed the OSCE participating States of the outcomes of the Regional Ecological Summit (RES), held in Astana from April 22 to 24, 2026.The representative of Kazakhstan in his statement pointed out that the Summit, initiated by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in partnership with the United Nations, has become the largest regional platform for environmental and climate action.The central political outcome of the Summit was the adoption of the “Astana Declaration on Environmental Solidarity in Central Asia” which enshrines the commitment of the States of the region to joint action in response to transboundary environmental challenges. OSCE participating States were informed about the initiative of the President of Kazakhstan to establish an International Water Organization under the auspices of the UN aimed at strengthening global water resources management. Consultations on this initiative were successfully launched during the Summit.The Kazakh delegation expressed gratitude to the OSCE leadership and structures, including Secretary General Mr.Feridun Sinirlioğlu and President of OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Mr.Pere Pons, for their active participation in the Summit and contribution to the development of regional environmental cooperation.In conclusion, it was emphasized that the agreements reached at the Summit are of significant importance for the OSCE agenda in the economic and environmental dimension.
