"Clean Kazakhstan" Saturday: Contribution to ecological culture and the city's ecosystem 23.07.2025
On July 23, 2025, another clean-up was held in Shymkent as part of the "Clean Kazakhstan" environmental campaign. This time, cleaning work was organized in the 8th microdistrict of the city, and local residents, along with utility workers, actively participated in the event. During the event, yards and pedestrian paths were cleaned of garbage, and mud and waste were removed from ditches and irrigation systems. "Clean Kazakhstan" is a large-scale environmental initiative held throughout the country. Its main goal is to raise environmental awareness among citizens, encourage them to treat nature with compassion, and form a culture of maintaining household cleanliness. Through such clean-up campaigns, people begin to understand more deeply that they are not only cleaning their own yard, but also contributing to the overall condition of the environment. The peculiarity of the weekend is that it is not limited to cleaning activities, but also includes public awareness-raising activities on environmental culture. The organizers provided residents with useful information on waste sorting, water conservation, and green space maintenance, and raised the issue of personal responsibility. The city administration sees this initiative not as a one-time event, but as part of a systematic process of forming an environmental culture. Similar clean-ups have been held in Shymkent before. For example, in 2023, a large environmental campaign was organized in the Nursat microdistrict of the city, where hundreds of residents and volunteers voluntarily went on a clean-up. At that time, ditches were also cleaned, and tree saplings were planted in green areas near apartment buildings. And in 2024, schoolchildren and youth organizations actively participated in the clean-up event in the Samal microdistrict, where eco-hours and educational lessons were held. Such examples prove that over time this initiative has become a permanent part of city life. In terms of their impact on the ecosystem, such cleanups are not just a one-time cleanup, but an important step that will bring long-term benefits. Rainwater and irrigation water can flow freely through the ditches cleared of garbage, preventing soil pollution and flooding. In addition, the reduction of open waste prevents the reproduction of insects and rodents that spread various diseases. The cleanliness and greening of the territory improves the overall ecological situation of the city and has a positive effect on the health of residents. Another important aspect is the change in people's attitude towards the environment. Residents who participate in the clean-up work clean up their surroundings and feel a deeper sense of responsibility for the area. This is an important mechanism that contributes to the formation of environmental awareness and social activism. After such actions, it is often observed that residents voluntarily begin to take care of their yards and properly dispose of garbage. The city administration and environmental organizations noted that this initiative will be continued. It is expected that similar sebbiliks will be held in other microdistricts in the near future. In addition, in the future, students of schools and colleges, entrepreneurs and public organizations will also be widely involved in these events. This indicates that sebbiliks are gradually becoming a city-wide eco-movement. In general, the clean-up drive held as part of the "Clean Kazakhstan" campaign is not just a cleaning event for the city of Shymkent, but an effective initiative that raises the environmental consciousness of society, unites residents in common interests, and is aimed at improving the city's ecosystem. Through such collective events, we work not only for the benefit of today, but also for future generations. Therefore, every resident should perceive participation in such cleanups not only as a duty, but also as a responsibility to society and nature. A clean city is a common goal that can be achieved not only with the participation of the akimat, but also with the participation of every citizen.
New playgrounds in Shymkent Arboretum: a step towards ecosystem and inclusion 21.07.2025
According to information published on the official pages of the Shymkent akimat on July 21, 2025, large-scale modernization works are underway in the A. Askarov State Dendrological Park in Shymkent. With the support of the city akim and BI Group, modern playgrounds and sports grounds are being installed on the territory of the park. This initiative is an important project that, in addition to creating a comfortable living environment for residents, determines the direction of the city's ecological and social development. It is especially noteworthy that the new infrastructure is being implemented in one of the most green areas of the city - in the arboretum. Here, not only playgrounds are provided, but also sports simulators for residents of different ages, recreation areas and shaded shelters. Most importantly, these complexes will allow children with disabilities to use them safely and with equal access. That is, a concrete and important step is being taken towards creating an inclusive society. Dendropark is one of the main ecological and cultural symbols of Shymkent. Built in 1979, this park is a natural habitat for rare trees and plants, birds and animals. This territory, which covers an area of 117 hectares, preserves a rich and delicate balance of the ecosystem. Therefore, any construction and projects implemented here should be carried out in such a way that they do not harm the ecosystem, but rather support it. The peculiarity of the project is that the artificial structures are made of environmentally friendly materials that do not harm the environment and are designed to be in harmony with the natural landscape of the area. According to representatives of BI Group, all the platforms are located in natural shaded areas, and the use of concrete and plastic is limited to the maximum. In addition, before the installation of each structure, an environmental assessment was carried out to ensure that it would not harm the rare plants of the park. A number of improvements were made to the park before. For example, in 2018, the main paths and lighting system of the park were repaired. However, an inclusive approach was not considered at that time. Therefore, people with disabilities and children in wheelchairs could not fully use the park infrastructure. In 2022, several recreation areas and fountains were installed in the park, but they were made only for aesthetic purposes. And this new project for 2025 is unique in its scale, social focus, and respect for the ecosystem. It is not just about landscaping, it is about creating equal opportunities for everyone in society and promoting the idea of living in harmony with nature. If we consider the impact on the urban ecosystem, such projects — if implemented correctly — strengthen the connection between humans and nature, while maintaining ecological balance. Frequent contact between city dwellers and nature fosters an ecological culture and responsibility for the environment. In addition, regularly used areas reduce the centralized load on the park, i.e., people are dispersed to different parts of the park, reducing the pressure on plants and soil. Another advantage of the project is that it can serve as a model for parks and green spaces in other parts of the city. If such inclusive, nature-friendly playgrounds and sports grounds were created in every park, this would significantly improve the ecological and social situation of Shymkent. In addition, it may also be important for ecotourism in the future. In conclusion, the new playgrounds in the A. Askarov Dendrological Park are not just a playground for children, they are a project that represents a new stage in the development of the city, combining inclusion and ecological harmony. This initiative is renewing not only the beauty of the city, but also its spirit. Thanks to such projects, Shymkent is becoming a comfortable, caring and environmentally sustainable city.
Shymcity Park: A clean park is an example of ecological harmony 22.07.2025
Since July 22, 2025, the Shymkent City Environmental Department has intensified daily monitoring of cleanliness and public order in the Shymcity Park. This is an ecological and social facility that has received special attention, as it is one of the most popular walking and relaxing areas for city residents. The cleanliness and comfort of the park are today a clear indicator of the city's culture, everyday life and environmental awareness. Shymcity Park is a multifunctional public space that has become a favorite place not only for Shymkal residents, but also for city guests. It has pedestrian paths, sports fields, children's play areas, green areas and ponds. Thousands of people relax here every day in the summer. Therefore, special requirements are placed on the cleanliness and beauty of the park. Currently, the following works are being carried out regularly in the park: – Garbage is removed in a timely manner and special containers are cleaned; – Green flags — trees and flower beds are maintained and watered several times a week; – Special cleaning and security teams are on duty every day to ensure public order. The Department of Environmental Protection has made these works not just a seasonal campaign, but a daily routine. This approach has a positive effect on the park's ecosystem. The first results are already visible: the garbage cans are not overflowing, the flower beds are not wilting, the roots of the trees are not drying out. There is even an increase in the number of birds and butterflies - this is a sign of changes in the natural environment. This initiative is much more systematic and effective than the work of previous years. For example, in 2022 and 2023, the cleanliness of the park depended mainly on Saturdays, volunteer initiatives, or cleaning activities organized before festive events. That is, there was no real and continuous control. In the summer, garbage accumulated in some places, plants withered, and an unpleasant odor appeared. Such situations caused dissatisfaction among residents. In 2024, a campaign called "Clean Park - Shared Responsibility" was held in Shymcity Park with the participation of municipal services to maintain cleanliness. However, this also remained a temporary campaign. Since July 2025, daily monitoring and professional maintenance have brought the park to a new level of quality. As for the ecosystem, the cleanliness of the park is not only aesthetic, but also ecologically important. In an unclean environment, harmful bacteria and parasites spread quickly. This not only poses a threat to human health, but also leads to the extinction of the park's flora and fauna. However, with special care, plants develop well and the habitat of birds and insects is preserved. Such an ecosystem ensures natural balance and improves the quality of the city's air. Shymcity Park also has a positive impact on the psychological well-being of city residents. Walking, playing sports, or simply relaxing in a clean, green environment helps people relieve stress and increase physical activity. This is an important step towards improving public health. The positive changes in Shymcity Park can serve as an example for other parks. It is planned to introduce a similar systematic monitoring and maintenance system in the city's parks such as Metallurg, Fantasy World, and Zhailau in the future. This initiative is also changing the attitude of residents towards their culture and the environment. Already, more and more people are putting their garbage in special bins in the park instead of throwing it on the ground. Parents raising their children are also paying attention to this example. This is the development of the culture of not just one park, but the entire city. In short, the cleanliness and order measures being implemented in Shymcity Park are not just landscaping work, they are an important step towards the ecological sustainability of the city. This initiative, which has moved from previous one-off measures to systematic planned work, should spread to all public spaces of Shymkent in the future. Such changes are an investment in the future of the city. A clean park is a guarantee of a comfortable city.
Clean water channels are a guarantee of Shymkent's ecological sustainability 25.07.2025
In April 2025, work began on cleaning rivers and canals in Shymkent, and continues until July 24. These environmental and infrastructure measures are currently being carried out on an ongoing basis. The goal is to prevent flooding in the spring and summer periods, restore the city's water infrastructure, and maintain the cleanliness of the natural environment. As part of this work, sediments and waste from river channels in the city are being cleaned using special equipment, and flows in water channels are being regulated. The main areas of this work are clearing silt from canals and ditch systems, cleaning coastlines, and inspecting water collection devices. Such measures, in addition to preventing natural disasters, also make a significant contribution to the restoration of the ecosystem. The city administration and municipal services organize this work not as seasonal Saturdays, but as a planned activity throughout the year. This indicates that in recent years the city's environmental policy has gradually become more systematic. Cleaning activities, which used to be mostly seasonal or one-time, are now becoming a long-term strategy. For example, in 2022, cleaning work was carried out on several large canals and riverbeds in Shymkent only in the spring. About several hundred tons of garbage and sediment were collected near the Bozaryk, Baidibek Bi, and Koshkar-ata rivers in the city and removed with special equipment. Although these works ensured the safety of the population from flooding, they were limited to only one season. The peculiarity of the current cleaning work in 2025 is that they are carried out regularly. In 2024, the Emergency Situations Department and the Natural Resources Department also inspected the condition of rivers, lakes, and canals and carried out preventive work. However, this work was mostly limited to preliminary inspections and cleaning in limited areas. Systematic and planned cleaning was not undertaken. As part of the cleaning work that began in March-April 2025, the hydrotechnical condition of the canals was also monitored. The main water channels of the city — the Koshkar-ata, Karasu, Aksu rivers and their tributaries, as well as canals used for agricultural purposes — are being gradually cleaned and cleared of sediments. These measures will restore the natural flow of the rivers, reduce water stagnation, odor formation, and harm to aquatic flora and fauna. There is no doubt that regular cleaning of water channels has a positive effect on the city's ecosystem. First, the natural circulation of water is restored. The flowing water is not blocked, but moves freely in its own direction. This also has a positive effect on the level of groundwater. Secondly, the quality of water improves. If canals and rivers are filled with silt and garbage, an unfavorable environment is created for microorganisms, plants and fish living in the water. And regular cleaning restores this balance. Third, the productivity of agriculture in irrigated areas will increase. The amount of water coming through agricultural canals will increase and will be delivered on time. This, in turn, will reduce farmers' costs and allow them to maintain soil fertility. Fourth, the safety and comfort of residents will be ensured. The risk of flooding in densely populated areas near waterways will be reduced. In addition, recreation areas, promenades, and public spaces along the coast will become environmentally safe and attractive. It should be noted that not only municipal services, but also volunteers, schoolchildren, residents and public organizations are involved in the cleaning work. This indicates that the environmental awareness of society is growing. Residents are not just observers, but active participants. The city administration's appeal "City cleanliness is our common goal!" is evidence of this. In short, the river and canal cleaning work that began in April 2025 is a comprehensive measure aimed at improving the city's ecological and infrastructural system. This initiative is aimed at providing sustainable and tangible results, unlike the one-time cleanups of previous years. This care for the natural environment will not only improve the quality of life of city residents, but also ensure a clean and safe environment for future generations.
In the territory of the "Turan" district, sanitary cleaning and landscaping work is being systematically carried out by "ShymkentSpetsKompleks" LLP 25.07.2025
On July 25, 2025, sanitary cleaning and landscaping work was systematically carried out in the Turan district of Shymkent. These works were organized by ShymkentSpetsKompleks LLP, which is implementing a set of measures aimed at creating a clean and comfortable environment for city residents. As part of the cleaning work on this day, streets and sidewalks were cleaned of garbage, grass and lawns were cut, flower beds were watered, and sanitary pruning of trees was carried out. Such measures allow improving the appearance of the city and providing residents with a comfortable living environment. Special equipment, employees, and manual labor were widely involved in the work. In addition, residents themselves participated in the Saturday clean-ups and contributed to the cleanliness of their territory. This initiative, compared to previous cleaning and landscaping activities, is being carried out systematically and with a specific plan. In 2024, for example, as part of the "Clean Kazakhstan" republican campaign, cleaning was carried out in the city. But most often it took place in the form of one-time cleanups. And this year, cleaning is being carried out regularly in the Turan district, which may have a long-term impact on the ecosystem. In previous years, a number of projects aimed at increasing greenery were implemented. In 2023–2024, more than 220 thousand tree seedlings were planted in Shymkent, several new flower beds were opened. In addition, fire-fighting mineral strips were created in forest areas, and care for natural areas was enhanced. These measures were aimed at long-term results and had a positive impact on the city's ecosystem. The work in the Turan district in 2025 can be considered a continuation of these projects. Because not only garbage collection, but also ongoing maintenance measures such as tree trimming, lawn watering, and grass cutting ensure environmental sustainability. The impact of these activities on the environment is significant. Maintaining lawns and grass reduces the amount of dust in the air and regulates the temperature in the city. Proper pruning of trees allows them to grow properly, get rid of diseases and live longer. Watering flower beds and keeping them clean not only improves the aesthetics of the city, but also has a positive effect on the life of bees and other pollinating insects. Regular cleaning measures also prevent the pollution of waterways and harmful waste from garbage entering the ecosystem. This, in turn, helps preserve the city's rivers, lakes, and groundwater. Such measures stabilize the microclimate and increase the amount of greenery in the city. The level of public participation has also increased. Volunteers, residents, and business representatives participate in the cleanups, showing their commitment to the city. This increases the environmental culture of the city's population and instills a sense of shared responsibility. The participation of residents in cleaning is an indicator of the growth of social capital. These 2025 works are much more effective and sustainable than previous one-time campaigns. If the cleaning activities of 2024 were mostly seasonal and yielded short-term results, this year's systematic cleaning and landscaping contribute to the sustainable development of the ecosystem. Some cleaning campaigns that were previously only a showpiece are now becoming part of real city policy. Maintaining green areas not only enhances the beauty of the city, but also has a direct impact on health. Clean air, shady areas, green barriers that protect against noise - all this has a positive impact on the quality of life of a person. Children's playgrounds and recreation areas also become comfortable and safe environments as a result of landscaping work. In short, the cleaning and landscaping work that began on July 25 and is being systematically continued is a concrete step towards improving the ecosystem of Shymkent. As a continuation of projects from previous years, this initiative will lead to positive changes not only in the environmental, but also in the social and cultural spheres. The beauty of the city lies in its cleanliness and greenery. Continuous work in this direction is not only an ecological but also a key mechanism for improving the quality of life of city residents.
Systemic cleanliness and a green course: how the Turansky district of Shymkent maintains ecological balance 25.07.2025
On July 25, 2025, large-scale works on sanitary cleaning and improvement of the urban environment were organized in the Turansky district of the city of Shymkent. These events became part of the planned activities that ShymkentSpetsKompleks LLP regularly carries out in order to improve the urban ecology and improve the quality of life of the population. During the day, specialists from the service organization carried out work to clear streets and sidewalks of garbage, mow grass and lawns, water and care for flower beds, and perform sanitary pruning of trees. The work covered both central and outlying areas of the district. Public utilities, specialized equipment, and green space workers were involved in the activities. The main goal of such events is not just to restore order, but to create a long-term and sustainable ecological climate within the city. Clean streets, well-kept flower beds and healthy trees have a positive effect not only on the appearance of the city, but also on air quality, noise levels, humidity and the general ecological situation. A distinctive feature of the current work is its systematic and continuous nature. If in previous years events of this kind were mainly limited to one-time actions and clean-up days, now the work is carried out on a regular basis. This indicates the city's transition from temporary solutions to sustainable policies in the field of ecology and urban improvement. Thus, in 2024, events were held in Shymkent as part of the national project "Clean Kazakhstan". Then the main emphasis was on mass cleanups and public cleanups, which covered wide sections of the population. Despite the positive effect, their impact was short-term. In contrast, the events held in the Turansky district in 2025 are systemic and preventive in nature, covering both the aesthetic and functional aspects of maintaining urban infrastructure. It should be noted that significant environmental projects have also been carried out in Shymkent in previous years. In 2023–2024, more than 220,000 tree seedlings were planted in the city, several new parks were landscaped, and fire protection measures in forest areas were strengthened. These actions became the basis for the formation of an urban green framework, on the basis of which new initiatives are subsequently developed. Returning to the current situation, it is important to emphasize that the work in the Turansky district involves not only garbage collection, but also targeted care of green spaces. This means regular watering, pruning, renewal of flower beds and soil care. Such an approach ensures the longevity of vegetation and preserves biological diversity in the urban environment. From an environmental point of view, such measures provide a number of tangible benefits. Mowed and well-groomed lawns reduce air dust, prevent the growth of weeds and promote a more even distribution of moisture. Sanitary pruning of trees helps to maintain their health, reduces the risk of old branches falling and stimulates the growth of new shoots. Caring for flower beds attracts pollinators, which in turn helps to maintain the ecological balance. The social aspects of such events are also of particular importance. The participation of district residents in cleanups, the organization of joint cleanup days, the involvement of schoolchildren, volunteers and employees of institutions increase the level of environmental literacy and form a sense of responsibility for the surrounding space. City residents begin to perceive cleanliness and improvement not as the responsibility of public services, but as part of a common cause. Systematic improvement activities also have a positive effect on the sanitary condition of the city. Regular street cleaning prevents clogging of storm drains, reduces the risk of spreading infections, and reduces the number of harmful insects and rodents. This is especially important in the southern climate of Shymkent, where high temperatures are observed in the summer. Thus, the actions carried out on July 25 in the Turansky district can be considered an example of a new approach to managing the urban environment. Instead of one-time campaigns, city authorities are betting on regular and consistent work, which allows achieving more sustainable results. Speaking about prospects, such events can become the basis for a larger-scale program of green development of the city. Given the successful experience of tree planting in previous years and the activity of public utilities, Shymkent can become one of the leaders in Kazakhstan in creating an environmentally friendly urban environment. In conclusion, it can be said that sanitary and landscaping works in the Turansky district are not just cleaning and watering. This is a comprehensive approach to the formation of the city of the future, in which man and nature exist in harmony. Sustainable improvement, environmental education and systematic care of the city infrastructure are the three pillars on which modern Shymkent is built.
Clean water – safe city: large-scale work to clean rivers and canals continues in Shymkent 25.07.2025
In Shymkent, work on cleaning the city's rivers and canals has been actively ongoing since the end of April 2025. This is an important and timely initiative aimed at improving water infrastructure, preventing possible floods and generally improving the environmental situation in the metropolis. According to the city authorities, the work is systemic and covers the main waterways, as well as small canals passing through residential areas. Since early spring, Shymkent has been facing risks of rising ground and surface water levels. Heavy rainfall, melting snow and household waste accumulating in riverbeds have often caused local flooding, especially in densely populated areas. That is why it was decided to urgently carry out deep cleaning of reservoirs and sewer branches, as well as carry out preventive work to strengthen the banks and ensure the free flow of water. These activities involve the use of specialized equipment and manual labor. Workers clear the bottom and banks of accumulated sediment, silt, stones, branches and debris. Particular attention is paid to areas where the water used to stagnate, which led to an unpleasant odor and the proliferation of insects. Now such areas are being restored, and the water flow returns to its natural channel. The main goal of these events, according to representatives of public utilities, is not only to prevent flooding, but also to improve the state of the urban ecosystem in the long term. Regular cleaning of riverbeds helps maintain the health of rivers, improves water quality, and helps certain species of birds, fish, and insects that have disappeared due to pollution return to the urban environment. It should be noted that the current work differs from that carried out in previous years. For example, in 2022 and 2023, the city also organized the cleaning of canals and rivers, but these events were, as a rule, one-time and timed to coincide with spring clean-up days or preparation for the flood period. Then, only the most problematic areas were cleaned, and the cleaning was most often carried out in emergency mode after complaints from local residents. In 2024, an attempt was made to move to a systemic prevention model. City services conducted a survey of hydraulic structures and several dozen kilometers of waterways. However, real large-scale work was never implemented due to a lack of funding and weather conditions. Unlike previous years, the current campaign is more extensive and well-thought-out. Not only municipal enterprises participate in the work, but also contractors, volunteers and residents of individual areas. The condition of water bodies is monitored daily, the water level is controlled and drainage devices are inspected. Particular attention is paid to canals used for agricultural purposes. In anticipation of the summer irrigation season, it is important that water reaches the fields without obstruction. Clogged canals can cause interruptions in water supply, which will directly affect crop yields. Therefore, cleaning canals plays an important role in the agricultural sustainability of the region. From an environmental point of view, such events help restore the water balance, reduce the amount of harmful emissions into the soil and water bodies, and reduce the risk of epidemiological diseases. Stagnant, polluted water is an ideal environment for the reproduction of pathogenic microorganisms. And open, free-flowing channels are not only safe, but also an element of urban aesthetics. In addition, restored banks and cleaned channels create a more comfortable environment for city residents. Walking areas, green spaces, and recreation areas for families with children can be arranged on the basis of cleaned channels. All this forms the image of a modern city in which nature and urbanization coexist in harmony. It is also worth noting the active participation of the public. After the city administration called for joint responsibility for cleanliness and order, volunteers, schoolchildren, and representatives of non-governmental organizations became active in many areas. A series of environmental campaigns are taking place, where residents clean the banks themselves, plant trees along the canals, and install information boards about careful treatment of water bodies. Such events also have a positive effect on the environmental awareness of the population. People begin to understand that a clean environment is not only the concern of public utilities, but also the personal responsibility of each person. This contributes to the formation of a long-term culture of sustainable living. Thus, the current work on cleaning canals and rivers in Shymkent is an exemplary initiative that can become a model for other cities in the country. It demonstrates that sustainable management of natural resources is possible provided that the government and society closely cooperate. This approach not only provides a prompt solution to current problems, but also forms a strategic basis for protecting the environment in the future. In the long term, purified and equipped water bodies will become an integral part of the city infrastructure: both engineering and social. This is a step towards a more environmentally friendly, safe and comfortable city, where people live in harmony with nature.
Cleanliness in the heart of the city: Shymcity Park becomes an example of urban care for the environment 22.07.2025
On July 22, 2025, a new phase of regular monitoring of the sanitary condition of one of the most popular public places, Shymcity Park, began in Shymkent. The Zhayly Orta administration announced enhanced monitoring of cleanliness and order throughout the park. This is not just cleaning for the sake of order — it is a comprehensive program to create a comfortable and safe urban environment for all residents and visitors of the city. Shymcity Park has long been a symbol of modern Shymkent: it is a space where children play, young people play sports, elderly people stroll along the alleys, and families have picnics and relax by the water. In order to keep this territory in a well-groomed condition and provide a favorable environment for recreation, the authorities decided to introduce daily supervision and maintenance of the green zone. The following measures are currently in place in the park: garbage is removed in a timely manner, grass surfaces and flower beds are constantly maintained, and mobile teams are working to clean up the area. Moreover, the park regularly carries out preventive trimming of shrubs, watering of plantings, and minor repairs of benches and sidewalks. Special groups ensure that trash bins do not overflow and that vacationers maintain public order. If we compare the current initiative with similar actions carried out in previous years, we can see a clear difference in approach. Previously, for example, in 2022 and 2023, cleaning in Shymcity Park was carried out sporadically, most often as part of environmental clean-up days or in response to complaints from city residents. On weekdays, especially in the evening, one could often see overflowing bins, scattered garbage, broken benches and dried-out trees. All this negatively affected the overall perception of the park and did not contribute to the formation of a respectful attitude towards public spaces. In 2024, the first attempts to implement a systematic approach began. Then, new containers for separate waste collection were installed in the park, additional trees were planted, and the cleaning schedule was increased during peak season. However, due to a shortage of workers and irregular monitoring, the achieved effect quickly came to naught. This year, the situation has changed. Now cleaning and maintenance are carried out not as needed, but according to a pre-approved schedule. The entire park is divided into sectors, each of which has a separate team. The leaders of these groups report on the work done daily. Thanks to this system, not only the sanitary conditions have noticeably improved, but also the atmosphere as a whole: the park has become cleaner, quieter, safer. The ecological effect of such measures is also obvious. Removal of household waste prevents pollution of soil and water bodies, and healthy green spaces help improve air quality. In addition, a favorable ecological environment brings back representatives of the local fauna to the park - birds, butterflies and insects, which play an important role in maintaining biodiversity in the city. It is important to note that improvements in the park are not limited to the efforts of public utilities. Volunteers, schoolchildren, students, and environmental movements are actively involved. They participate in one-time events, plant flowers, organize mini-cleaning days, and distribute information materials among park visitors. All this creates a sense of shared responsibility for the cleanliness and comfort of the public space. Shymcity Park today can be called an example of how a modern urban space should look like - well-groomed, accessible and ecologically balanced. At the same time, the achieved level requires constant attention and support, because without a system even the best initiatives can lose relevance. City authorities say that similar approaches will be gradually introduced in other parks and squares of Shymkent. This step is quite logical, because the formation of an ecological culture begins with simple things - a clean path, a neat flowerbed, a working trash can. If every corner of the city is kept in order, then residents will begin to treat common property more carefully. Thus, the program for maintaining cleanliness and order in Shymcity Park is not only about improvement. It is about respect for the city, care for nature, and raising an environmentally responsible generation. Today's efforts create tomorrow's image of Shymkent - green, modern and comfortable for living.
New Life for the Arboretum: How the Renovation of a Park in Shymkent Changes the Urban Environment 25.07.2025
In Shymkent, a large-scale reconstruction is underway on the territory of the A. Askarova State Dendrological Park. The initiative is being implemented with the support of the city akimat and BI Group, one of the largest construction holdings in the country. As part of the project, modern playgrounds and sports grounds are being installed in the park, accessible to all age groups, including people with disabilities. The arboretum, founded in the late 1970s, has long been not only a unique natural site, but also a favorite place for Shymkent residents to relax. Situated in an ecologically significant area of the city, it is the green heart of the metropolis. Hundreds of species of trees, shrubs and flowers grow on its territory, many of which are rare and protected. In recent years, attention to the park has increased, and the current project has become a logical continuation of the city's desire to create a comfortable, accessible and environmentally sustainable environment for everyone. The park's innovations include several areas: children's play complexes, outdoor exercise machines, recreation areas with benches and awnings. Particular attention is paid to inclusivity - for the first time in Shymkent, specially equipped areas for children with disabilities are appearing on the territory of the state arboretum. This reflects the city's desire not only to improve the territory, but also to make it accessible to every resident. It is important that the project is implemented in compliance with environmental standards. The materials used for construction are environmentally friendly, and the placement of new objects is planned in such a way as not to damage existing plants and not to disturb the natural landscape. Before the start of the work, environmental assessments were carried out to minimize any negative impact on the park's ecosystem. The history of such transformations in Shymkent shows how important it is to take into account the environmental factor when modernizing urban spaces. For example, back in 2018, the same park underwent reconstruction of paths and lanterns, but at that time, accessibility elements or multifunctional zones for all categories of the population were not envisaged. In 2022, new playgrounds appeared in several microdistricts of the city, but they were located on vacant lots without green spaces, and after a short time they faced problems with maintenance and vandalism. The current project in the arboretum stands out in its own right: it is integrated into the existing green ecosystem, which allows preserving the natural environment and simultaneously expanding the functionality of the space. This solution not only improves the quality of life of city residents, but also fosters environmental culture. Park visitors will see in practice how urban infrastructure can be combined with respect for nature. The impact of the project on the ecosystem also deserves attention. On the one hand, any construction in a natural area carries potential risks: soil disturbance, disturbance to park inhabitants, and possibly temporary deterioration of the condition of plants near the construction site. However, with a responsible approach, as in this case, such risks are minimized. Moreover, landscaped areas contribute to the even distribution of visitor flow, preventing excessive load on individual areas of green space. This is especially important in the context of climate change and population growth. The project also has a significant social impact. Inclusive elements help to create an open, respectful society. Children with special needs will now be able to play on an equal basis with others, and adults will be able to play sports in comfortable conditions. This strengthens the sense of community and improves the quality of city life in general. The emergence of new sites in the arboretum also creates opportunities for holding mass events, sports activities, cultural events and environmental lessons in the open air. Thus, the park becomes not only a place of rest, but also an educational platform where residents can learn more about nature, healthy lifestyle and civic responsibility. In the future, this approach to improvement may become a model for other parks in Shymkent and even Kazakhstan. Combining inclusivity, ecology and functionality is the path to sustainable urban development. And if each project is based on these principles, then Shymkent may well become a model of harmonious interaction between nature and urbanism. Thus, the initiative to renew A. Askarova Dendrological Park is not just a renovation or installation of swings. It is a contribution to the environment, social justice and the future of the city. Thanks to such projects, Shymkent is becoming a truly green and comfortable city for everyone.
"Clean Kazakhstan": how clean-up days in Shymkent shape environmental awareness and improve the urban environment 23.07.2025
On July 23, 2025, in Shymkent, as part of a large-scale environmental campaign "Clean Kazakhstan", a clean-up day was held in the 8th microdistrict. The event brought together under its banners employees of public utilities, active citizens, representatives of organizations and ordinary residents ready to contribute to the cleanliness and improvement of their hometown. The organizers and participants cleared the courtyards, pedestrian paths, irrigation canals and ditches from garbage, silt and household waste. Such events have not only a visual effect, but also a deeper meaning - they contribute to the formation of a culture of careful attitude to the environment, strengthen the sense of responsibility for the common space. The Clean Kazakhstan environmental campaign is not taking place for the first time. In Shymkent, its implementation has already become a good tradition. Previously, similar events were held in different parts of the city, including the Samal, Nursat and suburban areas. For example, in 2023, a cleanup day was held in Nursat, where, in addition to cleaning the area, trees and shrubs were planted, and residents received reminders on waste management rules. In 2024, schoolchildren, students and members of volunteer movements actively joined the cleanup in Samal, which became an important step in involving young people in solving environmental problems. What distinguishes the 2025 event is the increasing participation of the citizens themselves. If previously the bulk of the work was done by public utilities, now you can increasingly see neighbors who come out with bags, rakes and gloves, ready to change the surrounding space with their own hands. This indicates an increase in environmental awareness among the population. In addition, more and more attention is being paid not only to garbage collection, but also to cleaning irrigation canals and ditches. This plays a key role in the city’s ecosystem. Clogged drains interfere with natural drainage, contribute to swamping and the spread of insects, and also increase the risk of flooding after rains. Regular cleaning helps maintain the balance of the water system and protects green areas from drought. It is also worth noting the symbolic side of such clean-up days. Participation in joint work unites people, creates a sense of involvement in the city's affairs. Many residents admit that after such events they begin to look at the surrounding space differently - not as an impersonal territory, but as an extension of their home, which needs to be looked after. The effect of "Clean Kazakhstan" is becoming noticeable in everyday life. More and more people are sorting garbage, refusing plastic, and keeping playgrounds and yards clean. Environmental culture is gradually becoming commonplace, and this is one of the main achievements of such campaigns. From an environmental perspective, regular clean-ups reduce the overall load on the urban ecosystem. Reducing the amount of waste reduces the risk of soil and groundwater pollution, while well-maintained green spaces help reduce temperatures in city blocks, improve air quality, and enrich biodiversity. Restoring irrigation canals provides moisture to plants, thereby preventing their death during the hot summer months. The Shymkent administration has already announced that the initiative will be continued. Similar clean-up days are planned for other microdistricts in the near future. Particular attention will be paid to abandoned areas, squares and coastal areas. Not only local residents, but also schoolchildren, students, the business community and public associations will be involved in the event. This will make the campaign even more widespread and sustainable. Ultimately, Clean Kazakhstan is not just about clean-ups. It is about culture, values, and lifestyle. It is a call to live in harmony with nature and not to shift responsibility to the state or neighbors. Every person can make a contribution — from participating in clean-ups to simply maintaining cleanliness in everyday life. A clean city starts with a clean yard, and a clean yard starts with the initiative of its residents. Let every clean-up day be a step towards a future in which Shymkent will become not only a green and well-groomed, but also an environmentally conscious metropolis.
Prevention of enzootic diseases in Shymkent: the key to health and environmental safety 25.07.2025
In July 2025, an information and prevention campaign aimed at preventing enzootic diseases among animals was launched in Shymkent. The events were organized jointly by the City Department of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, specialists from the State Enterprise "Veterinary Service" and employees of the Akimat of the Al-Farabi District. One of the main stages was meetings with residents of the Tekesu microdistrict on July 23 and 24, where the upcoming disinfection scheduled for August 10 was discussed. Enzootic diseases are infectious and parasitic diseases that are localized to a particular area and transmitted among animals. Some of them can be dangerous for humans, especially if the pathogen persists in the environment or is transmitted through insect bites. In urban areas, where farm animals are kept in close proximity to residential areas, such diseases pose an increased risk to both public health and the urban ecosystem as a whole. In preparation for disinfection, specialists explained to residents the rules of sanitary safety, the importance of timely removal of manure, organic remains, wet litter and garbage near outbuildings. The main emphasis was placed on the fact that prevention is always more effective than dealing with the consequences. Residents were also told about the opportunities to participate in free veterinary events and how to properly prepare areas for disinfection. The current campaign is characterized by its emphasis on personal responsibility and public participation. While such events were previously perceived as an initiative of city services only, now more and more city residents realize that the sanitary condition of their areas directly affects the well-being of the environment. This indicates a growing environmental awareness and the gradual formation of a culture of sustainable coexistence with nature, even in urban conditions. Historically, Shymkent has already had experience with similar events. For example, in 2022, large-scale disinfection was also carried out in the city's suburban areas to prevent outbreaks of brucellosis and skin dermatitis in cattle. At that time, the work covered more than 80 private farmsteads. However, unlike the current initiative, previous measures were often limited to mechanical cleaning without extensive information support. The current program is distinguished by a systematic approach: preliminary preparation, explanation, involvement of not only specialists, but also local activists, street elders, workers of public utilities and sanitary services. This allows not only to eliminate potential sources of infection, but also to form a sustainable practice of sanitary self-control in city blocks. From an environmental point of view, disinfection measures also play an important role. Cleaning areas from manure and organic waste helps reduce the level of soil and groundwater pollution, prevents the reproduction of flies, rats and other disease carriers. In addition, it prevents the release of unpleasant and harmful gases into the atmosphere, such as ammonia and hydrogen sulfide, formed during the decomposition of organic matter. In addition to the direct sanitary effect, such activity also has an indirect impact on the citywide environmental situation: air quality improves, the risk of pollution of storm drains and irrigation canals decreases, and the comfort of the urban environment increases, especially in the private sectors, where the practice of domestic livestock farming is still preserved. Prevention of enzootic diseases is not only a veterinary task, but also a social one. Involvement of the local population helps to build trust between citizens and authorities, as well as to ensure sustainability of the achieved results. Such measures are not a one-time action, but a step towards systemic improvement of the urban environment and the health of its residents. The planned start of disinfection activities - August 10 - will be the practical phase of the current information campaign. From this time, specialists will begin active work on the sanitization of yards, sheds and adjacent areas in the most susceptible areas. The city administration calls on all owners of domestic and farm animals to ensure timely preparation of areas and strictly adhere to sanitary standards. Thus, the program for the prevention of enzootic diseases carried out in Shymkent is an example of successful coordination of efforts of various structures aimed at protecting public health, reducing environmental risks and improving the quality of urban life. This is an important step towards the formation of a safe and sustainable city, in which concern for sanitation and the environment becomes part of the daily responsibility of each resident.
Shymkent: Cleaning rivers and canals is a systematic work for the benefit of the urban ecosystem 21.07.2025
Since July 21, 2025, systematic work on cleaning rivers and canals has been ongoing in Shymkent. This initiative, implemented under the control of city services, is aimed at improving the city's infrastructure, preventing floods, protecting the environment and improving the ecosystem. The peculiarity of the current stage of work is its regularity, comprehensive approach and mandatory reporting for each completed section. As part of these activities, the bottom and banks of water bodies are cleared of debris and silt, obstacles that impede the flow of water are removed, and irrigation canals are restored. At the same time, the ability of water bodies to pass water is improved, which is extremely important in hot climates and periodic downpours, which often lead to local flooding. According to experts, the work is carried out on an ongoing basis , according to a pre-arranged schedule. After the completion of each stage, city utilities provide detailed reports with photographs, video recording and an indication of the volumes completed. These reports are published in official sources of the city administration, which allows residents to see real progress and make sure that cleaning is not a one-time action, but a systematic effort to improve the quality of the urban environment . To date, sections of canals and rivers in several areas of the city have been cleared. Particular attention is being paid to areas where water sludge and local flooding have occurred in previous years. Removing accumulated debris and silt allows for the restoration of natural water flow and reduces the risk of flooding of nearby streets and residential areas. At the same time, an information campaign is being conducted among the population: residents are asked not to throw garbage into river beds and irrigation ditches, not to pollute canals with household waste. The authorities emphasize that the cleanliness of the urban environment begins with the responsibility of each person . Impact on the ecosystem Regular cleaning of water bodies has a positive impact on the urban ecosystem: The quality of water improves , which helps to preserve flora and fauna; The risk of disease spread is reduced , as stagnant water and organic waste are an ideal breeding ground for insects and rodents; Prevents coastal erosion and enhances hydrological stability; The amount of greenhouse gases emitted by waste decomposing in water is reduced; More comfortable conditions are being created for city residents to relax near water bodies. Similar initiatives have been undertaken before, but they were episodic in nature - most often timed to coincide with clean-up days or before the spring flood. The lack of constant monitoring and a systematic approach led to the reservoirs becoming overgrown with silt and clogged again. Starting in 2024, the city administration changed its approach: a schedule was adopted, according to which work is carried out in specific areas using specialized equipment and personnel. The year 2025 was especially indicative - reporting became mandatory , and the participation of local residents in monitoring increased thanks to online feedback platforms. Each completed stage is recorded and covered in social networks and official news of the akimat. Video materials and photo reports allow monitoring the process and also demonstrate the real effectiveness of the measures taken. The systematic nature of these works indicates the transition of the city government to a planned management of environmental safety . This is not only the fight against garbage, but also the cultivation of a culture of careful attitude towards nature. Cleaning rivers and canals in Shymkent is not a one-time action, but a long-term, systemic project aimed at improving the ecological state of the city, protecting against natural risks and improving the quality of life of citizens. Constant reporting, public participation and an integrated approach make this initiative an effective tool for sustainable urban development. Clean waterways are the key to the ecological health of the city. And if previously these measures were taken only occasionally, now they are an integral part of the new city policy based on responsibility, transparency and concern for the future.
Shymkent is becoming cleaner and greener: a large-scale environmental cleanup took place in the Abay district 14.07.2025
On July 14, 2025, comprehensive landscaping and sanitary cleaning of the territory took place in the Abay district of Shymkent. The initiators of the event were the city departments of natural resources and comfortable urban environment. The main goal is to create a favorable environmental situation, improve the aesthetics of the area and increase the level of comfort for local residents. Abaysky district is one of the most densely populated and actively developing in Shymkent. A large number of residential areas, educational institutions and social facilities are concentrated here, which means that the issue of improvement and sanitary order is always especially acute. Summer heat and high density of development only increase the need for regular measures for landscaping and cleaning. During the July campaign, more than 450 trees of various species were planted, including linden, maple, elm, and drought-resistant shrubs. The work covered not only courtyards and park areas, but also areas near schools, kindergartens, clinics, and pedestrian streets. About 2,500 square meters of lawn were laid along the central alleys, and over 1,800 flowering plants appeared in flowerbeds and flower gardens, from chrysanthemums to petunias and roses. Special attention was paid to sanitary cleaning. As a result, about 18 tons of garbage were removed, including household waste, construction waste and fallen branches. 12 units of special equipment were used - dump trucks, tractors, watering machines and lawn mowers. Deadwood was also trimmed, small architectural forms were painted, trees were whitewashed, urns and benches were cleaned. All activities were carried out within the framework of a single improvement plan adapted to the hot climatic conditions of the city. About 300 people took part in the event — utility workers, representatives of local organizations, volunteers, students, and ordinary residents of the area. In many courtyards, residents themselves came out with shovels and watering cans to participate in the improvement of their street. This demonstrates the growing civic activity and desire of city residents to take part in the life of their area. Compared to previous years, the scale and organization of such events have improved significantly. For example, in 2023, a campaign to plant trees near schools and medical institutions was held in the same area, but the coverage and involvement were noticeably smaller. In the spring of 2024, work was carried out to lay lawns and build playgrounds, but sanitary measures were only partially included. The event of July 14, 2025 is distinguished by a comprehensive approach: environmental, sanitary and educational components were combined in one project. In particular, signs with QR codes appeared in some areas - with their help, you can find out information about a specific plant, the rules for caring for it, its environmental value and other interesting information. This format helps to popularize environmental education, especially among children and adolescents. Local authorities emphasize that the campaign is not a one-off event, but part of a long-term strategy to improve the urban environment. In the fall, they plan to continue planting trees, conduct work to insulate the soil and protect plants from frost. The possibility of installing additional drip irrigation systems in new green areas will also be considered. Residents of the Abay district evaluate the changes positively. According to them, the appearance of new trees and flowerbeds has noticeably transformed the appearance of courtyards and streets. In the conditions of the scorching sun, new plantings provide shade, and clean streets reduce dust levels and improve the general mood. This is especially important for families with children and the elderly. Thus, the environmental campaign that took place on July 14 became another, but very significant step towards creating a sustainable, clean and green urban environment in Shymkent. A systematic approach, public participation and attention to detail allow us to hope that such events will become regular and cover the entire city.
City in Bloom: Large-scale Landscaping Works Held in Shymkent's Turansky District 11.07.2025
On July 11, 2025, a large-scale greening campaign was held in the Turansky district of Shymkent, organized by the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection. This event became part of the city program to improve the environmental situation, create a comfortable urban environment and form a responsible attitude towards nature among the population. Turan is one of the youngest and most rapidly developing areas of the city. Residential complexes, schools, roads and social facilities are being rapidly built here. However, intensive development entails a shortage of green areas, which was the main reason for choosing this area as a priority for greening in July. During one day, work was carried out in several key areas - near residential areas, social institutions, on central streets and in public areas. The following was planted as part of the project: 350 ornamental trees (spruce, maple, birch), 1200 perennial flowers (lilac, lavender, roses, chrysanthemums), About 3,000 square meters of lawn were laid. The choice of plants was based on their resistance to the dry climate of Southern Kazakhstan, ease of care and ability to absorb harmful substances from the air. All planted plants are equipped with a drip irrigation system, which will keep them in good condition even in hot summer conditions. The landscaping work was accompanied by improvement of the soil layer: before planting, fertilizers and fertile soil were used to ensure rapid growth and adaptation of plants. More than 200 people took an active part in the event - employees of the department, volunteers, schoolchildren, as well as concerned local residents. About 10 units of equipment were used to transport water and planting material. In addition, lawn mowers, mini tractors and trucks were used to remove construction and household waste from future green areas. All this made it possible to transform previously empty or littered areas into cozy corners of nature amidst urban development. The proactive approach to educating city residents deserves special attention. Special signs with QR codes were installed in the areas where the work was carried out. With their help, any passerby can find out the name of the plant, the date of planting, care conditions and even interesting facts about its benefits for the environment. This innovation is aimed at increasing environmental culture among children and young people. Similar events have been held in Shymkent before. In 2023, about 200 fruit trees were planted in the same area, mainly along the streets and in schoolyards. And in the spring of 2024, as part of the initiative to create a "green belt" around the city, more than 5,000 trees were planted in the suburban area. However, the difference in the July 2025 campaign is that all stages were worked out more thoroughly: from preparing the territory to connecting to irrigation systems and installing information materials. City residents praised the authorities' efforts. Social networks posted many comments expressing gratitude to the participants of the campaign. They especially noted the timeliness of the work: at the height of summer, when the heat reaches its maximum, new green areas become a real salvation from dust and stuffiness. For parents with children, pensioners and people with chronic diseases, this is an important improvement in the quality of life. The Natural Resources Department management reported that such campaigns will continue in the fall, when the season for planting deciduous trees and shrubs begins. In the future, it is planned to green other microdistricts of the city, especially those where dense development leaves a minimum of space for nature. The possibility of distributing free seedlings to residents is also being considered to encourage individual greening of courtyards and streets. The results of the past campaign testify to a systematic approach to the improvement of Shymkent. The work was carried out taking into account the climate realities, the needs of the population and the city development plan. If previously the landscaping was of a point and seasonal nature, now it is part of a long-term strategy, including the participation of citizens, modern technology and educational components. Thus, the greening of July 11 was not just another tree planting, but a step towards an ecologically sustainable future for the city. Shymkent is increasingly becoming a city where nature and urbanism can coexist in harmony, providing residents with clean air, shade on hot days, and visual pleasure from blooming streets and squares.
A clean city is a common cause: Shymkent has undergone a comprehensive street cleaning campaign with watering and mechanical cleaning 16.07.2025
On July 16, 2025, large-scale sanitary measures were held in Shymkent aimed at improving the environmental situation and increasing the level of comfort of the urban environment. Under the control of the Department of Comfortable Urban Environment, work was organized to water the streets and mechanically clean the road surface. Such measures are especially relevant in the summer, when the level of air dust increases sharply and directly affects the health of city residents. The work began early in the morning and covered both the central and outlying areas of the city. The main goal was to reduce the amount of dust and pollution that had accumulated on the roadway and roadsides. For this purpose, street cleaners, specialized equipment for garbage collection, and teams of municipal services employees were used. Particular attention was paid to areas with heavy traffic - central avenues, streets near markets, bus stations and near large residential complexes. These areas have a high concentration of dust, exhaust gases and garbage. The watering of the roads significantly reduced the amount of suspended particles in the air, thereby improving its quality. According to the organizers, about 20 units of equipment and more than 100 employees of public utilities were involved in the event. As a result of the work, over 30 kilometers of the street and road network were cleared, several dozen tons of garbage were collected, which were subsequently taken to special landfills. Such events are not new for Shymkent. Over the years, the city has repeatedly held seasonal or unscheduled environmental campaigns. Thus, in the summer of 2023, after several days of a dust storm, city services carried out an unscheduled cleaning of central streets and courtyards, during which the method of watering roads was also used. Then the work continued for several days, and residents noted a significant improvement in air quality. In the spring of 2024, as part of the traditional citywide clean-up day, a large-scale street cleaning was organized, including washing sidewalks, bus stops, and benches. These events were accompanied by explanatory work on the importance of cleanliness and the role of each resident in maintaining order. However, unlike previous years, the clean-up in July 2025 was more coordinated and comprehensive: all stages - from watering to garbage removal - were carried out sequentially over the course of one day. A new element in the current campaign is the creation of mobile control groups whose task is to monitor the condition of cleared areas for several days after the work has been completed. These groups record repeated contamination, assess the effectiveness of the measures taken and, if necessary, send equipment again. This approach allows not only to eliminate the consequences of contamination, but also to build a system of preventive work. The citizens welcomed the initiative. Social networks were filled with many comments expressing gratitude to the utility workers and calling on residents to be more attentive to the cleanliness of the streets. Many note that air pollution is especially noticeable on hot days, and the watering made walking and being outside much more comfortable. This is especially important for children, the elderly, and those who suffer from respiratory diseases. The Department of Comfortable Urban Environment has already announced its intention to hold such events on a regular basis. It is planned that, depending on weather conditions, the main streets of the city will be watered and cleaned at least once a week. In addition, the possibility of expanding the vehicle fleet is being considered, including the acquisition of small-sized vehicles for narrow streets and sidewalks where heavy equipment cannot pass. Also in the near future is the development of educational work among the population. It is planned to launch a series of short videos and posters telling about the importance of cleanliness of the city and basic rules of conduct: do not throw garbage on the street, do not leave bags near containers, sort waste, report illegal dumps. The authorities hope that only through joint efforts can they achieve a truly clean and green city. Thus, the event on July 16 was not just another stage of sanitary cleaning, but a reflection of a systematic approach to environmental issues and urban improvement. The comprehensive nature of the work, the active participation of public utilities and the positive reaction of residents indicate that Shymkent is moving in the right direction - towards a cleaner, safer and more comfortable city.
Large-scale landscaping and sanitary cleaning works were carried out in the Abay district of Shymkent 18.07.2025
On July 18, 2025, in one of the largest districts of Shymkent - Abay - comprehensive landscaping, watering of green spaces and sanitary cleaning of the territory took place. This event was a continuation of the systematic efforts of the city authorities to improve the environmental situation, increase landscaping and form a responsible attitude to the environment among residents. Since early morning, garbage collection, pruning of old bushes, street sweeping, and planting of new trees and ornamental shrubs began in different parts of the district. Employees of public services, volunteers, school and college students, representatives of public organizations, and simply concerned citizens took part in the event. In total, more than 150 people were involved in the event. On this day, special attention was paid to parks, courtyards, roadsides and empty areas. The work was carried out using special equipment: tankers were used to water the green spaces, and dump trucks and tractors were used to remove the garbage. During the day, more than 30 tons of garbage were removed from different areas of the district, including construction waste, old leaves and spontaneous piles of household rubbish. This waste was delivered to special landfills for further disposal. About 200 trees and shrubs were also planted in the area — mostly shade-tolerant and climate-friendly species. New plantings were made near schools, medical facilities and along busy streets. At the same time, existing green spaces were watered to preserve them in the summer heat. The city administration notes that such events are necessary not only to maintain cleanliness, but also to improve the microclimate in the urban environment. In conditions of dense development and high temperatures, it is green spaces that become a natural filter for the air and create a comfortable atmosphere for residents. In addition, such events help to strengthen the sense of collective responsibility for the state of the environment. It is worth recalling that this is not the first experience of carrying out environmental and sanitary work in the Abay district. For example, in the spring of 2023, as part of the Zhasyl Beldeu program, more than 3 thousand seedlings were planted here, and clean-up days were organized with the participation of residents. In the fall of 2024, a large-scale replacement of old and hazardous trees with young and environmentally sustainable species took place, thanks to which the district acquired a more well-groomed and green appearance. A distinctive feature of the 2025 event was the active support from youth organizations. Volunteers conducted explanatory work among the population on the importance of waste sorting and regular maintenance of green spaces. Leaflets were distributed, and small posters with advice on eco-conscious behavior were placed in public places. In addition, a new approach to green space maintenance was introduced this year. A specially created environmental control group will check the condition of new plantings monthly, monitor watering and provide recommendations for their further maintenance. This will not only improve plant survival, but also raise the overall level of organization of such work. Local authorities expressed gratitude to all participants of the campaign - from schoolchildren to employees of enterprises who allocated time and resources for the common cause. Upon completion of the work, letters of gratitude were presented to active participants, and a mini-competition for the best improvement of courtyards and adjacent territories was announced under the name "Clean District - Healthy Society". This innovation is intended to encourage residents to independently maintain cleanliness in courtyards and around houses. Overall, the event was an important step in creating a comfortable urban environment. It not only improved the appearance of the area, but also showed that the joint efforts of city residents, utilities and local authorities can produce tangible results. Such events are not limited to one day - they become part of a broad strategy for sustainable development of the city. Experience from previous years shows that only regularity, consistency and public involvement can ensure a long-term effect. Therefore, in the future, similar events are planned to be held in the Abay district at least once a season, with an expansion of the scale of work and the number of participants. Particular emphasis will be placed on education so that each resident feels involved in maintaining cleanliness and order. The campaign held on July 18 became a clear example of how to combine improvement, environmental education and social activity. And, most importantly, it inspired many to care for their neighborhood not out of obligation, but out of an inner desire to live in a clean, green and comfortable city.
Shymkent cleared of 15 tons of garbage during large-scale clean-up 21.07.2025
On July 21, 2025, a large-scale clean-up day was held in Shymkent, during which about 15 tons of household and street garbage were collected. This event was part of the environmental campaign "Taza Kazakhstan" and covered various areas of the city. More than 250 people took part in the clean-up day - these are employees of government agencies, representatives of public utilities, students, schoolchildren and simply concerned residents. 11 units of special equipment were used to transport the garbage. Not only roadways and sidewalks were cleaned, but also adjacent areas, parks, squares and empty plots of land. The cleanup was organized not only to clean up, but also to remind city residents of the importance of caring for the environment. Environmental awareness is formed not only through educational programs, but also through personal participation in such events. Participants noted that such events not only improve the sanitary condition of the city, but also unite people of different ages and professions around a common goal. Many came with children to show them by personal example the importance of caring for cleanliness and nature. The organizers of the cleanup emphasized that the event was held in a positive atmosphere. People worked with enthusiasm, supported each other, communicated, and offered ideas for further improvement of their neighborhoods. Such events help to form a sense of community, when everyone feels that they can influence the quality of the environment in which they live. The participants were presented with letters of gratitude and souvenirs as a token of appreciation for their contribution to the development of the city. It is worth noting that this is not the first clean-up day held in Shymkent. In September 2023, a similar event was held as part of the Zhasyl El program, during which more than 18 tons of garbage were collected. About 300 people took part then, and the clean-up day itself was accompanied by landscaping of the territory - trees and shrubs were planted. In the spring of 2024, another major clean-up took place, during which about 5 thousand trees were planted. These initiatives have become important milestones on the path to sustainable development of the city and improvement of the environmental situation. Unlike previous campaigns, the July 2025 clean-up day was more widely covered and well-organized. Attention was paid not only to garbage collection, but also to informing residents. During the week, calls for participation were distributed on social networks, and information was provided about the harm of unauthorized dumps and the importance of waste sorting. Such steps help not only to restore order once, but also to strengthen environmental habits among the population. It was especially nice to see the participation of young people. Schoolchildren and students came not under duress, but at the call of their hearts. They realize that a clean and safe environment is the basis for a prosperous life. Their activity shows that Shymkent has a future with conscious and responsible citizens. Such actions form not only cleanliness, but also respect for work, for the city, for those around you. City authorities have stated that work in this direction will continue. The next stages of environmental activities are already planned, including repeated clean-up days, planting of green spaces, installation of containers for separate waste collection and holding educational meetings. The number of patrol checks for unauthorized waste dumping will be increased, and work on involving enterprises in the maintenance of adjacent territories will be intensified. The clean-up on July 21 became a clear example of how collective work can change the city for the better. It showed that there is no need to wait for instructions "from above", just a desire to act and a little effort. Each participant made their contribution, and together they managed to achieve tangible results. Such events not only improve the appearance of Shymkent, but also strengthen civic activity, create a positive attitude and inspire new things. Today, Shymkent needs such initiatives. The city is growing rapidly, new districts are appearing, the load on infrastructure and ecology is increasing. Timely and coordinated actions for cleaning, improvement and greening are becoming vital. The clean-up day showed that with the desire and support of the authorities, the business sector and active citizens, significant changes can be achieved.
Cleanliness as the basis for environmental well-being: a large-scale clean-up day was held in Shymkent 18.07.2025
On July 18, 2025, as part of the environmental campaign "Taza Kazakhstan", a large clean-up day was organized in Shymkent, covering several areas at once, including Saule and the "Voenny Gorodok" district. This event became the next stage of systematic work to improve the sanitary condition of the city, develop a culture of cleanliness among the population and form a responsible attitude towards the environment. The initiative was supported not only by employees of public utilities, but also by representatives of social facilities, the private sector, residents of apartment buildings, and employees of the district akim's office. Joint efforts were made to clean up garbage, level destroyed areas, remove household waste, and remove illegal dumps. In total, more than 250 people and 11 units of specialized equipment took part in the cleanup. About 15 tons of various garbage were removed from the area. Such events have become a good tradition in Shymkent, but this clean-up day was distinguished by its scale and level of organization. Compared to previous years, in 2023, about 150 people took part in a similar clean-up day in the same area, no more than 6 units of equipment were used, and the coverage of the territory was noticeably more modest. In 2024, the number of participants increased to 180, coordination between services improved, but the events were not so massive and comprehensive. In 2025, most of the area was involved, including courtyards, park areas, driveways and abandoned areas. The clean-up day was not just a one-time event, but an element of a long-term strategy to improve the urban ecology. The event organizers note that waste removal and cleaning of the territory have a positive effect on the overall condition of the urban environment. For example, timely garbage disposal prevents soil and groundwater pollution, reduces the risk of spreading pathogenic bacteria and pests. In addition, a clean and well-maintained environment helps to develop a sense of responsibility for the common good among residents. An important part of the event was informing the population. Volunteers and employees of public utilities talked about the importance of separate waste collection, waste recycling, and rules for the disposal of building materials. These measures are aimed at developing environmental literacy among city residents and especially young people. Environmental activities have also had an impact on the microclimate of the area. Cleaning overgrown areas, removing garbage and pruning dry trees help improve air exchange, which is especially important in the summer when the city suffers from heat and smog. Cleanliness in the area helps reduce the temperature near residential buildings, improves the visual perception of the environment and increases the level of comfort of life. It is also impossible not to note the active participation of the residents of the "Military Town". Their involvement and initiative demonstrated how important cooperation between the government and the population is becoming. Where people participate in the improvement of their own environment, the level of cleanliness is consistently higher. The clean-up day showed that only through joint efforts can we achieve real results. It is important that such events do not remain one-off events, but become a regular part of city life. A clean district is not only a matter of aesthetics, but also a matter of health, safety and quality of life. According to representatives of the akimat, in the future it is planned to organize similar clean-up days in other areas of the city, strengthen control over unauthorized dumps, and encourage proactive residents who contribute to the cleanliness and improvement of the area. The possibility of creating "eco-patrols" from among volunteers, schoolchildren and students who will monitor the condition of courtyards, squares and streets is being considered. Thus, the last clean-up day in Shymkent became not only an action to restore order, but also an example of effective interaction between citizens and city structures. It clearly demonstrated that environmental responsibility begins with each of us, and the cleanliness of the environment is not an abstract concept, but specific actions that bring real results. There is still a lot of work ahead, but it is already clear that thanks to such initiatives the city is becoming cleaner, more comfortable and closer to environmental standards of sustainable development.
Shymkent is actively preparing for the heating season: work at heating facilities is in full swing 21.07.2025
Large-scale preparations for the 2025-2026 heating season have begun in Shymkent. Municipal services, utility companies and specialized organizations are carrying out planned restoration and preventive work at the city's thermal power complex facilities. These measures are aimed at ensuring an uninterrupted supply of heat in the upcoming autumn-winter period. As a result of hydraulic tests conducted in various areas of the city, 98 technical faults were identified. To date, 68 of them have been eliminated, which is about 70% of the total. Work continues at all levels - from main heating lines to intra-quarter distribution networks. Particular attention is paid to areas where emergency shutdowns were recorded in previous years or there were complaints from the population. The preparation of apartment buildings is also on schedule. Of the 2,154 apartment buildings serviced by public utilities, 456 have already been put in order. To ensure the stable operation of heating systems, pipes are flushed, valves are inspected, worn sections of pipelines are replaced, and connections are sealed. Social infrastructure facilities have not been left out either. Schools, kindergartens, medical institutions, as well as cultural and sports complexes are actively preparing for the heating season. Of the 212 such facilities, 104 are currently ready for the heating season. Particular attention is being paid to institutions with round-the-clock stay of people - hospitals and nursing homes, where any disruptions in the heat supply can have serious consequences. An important stage is the preparation of boiler houses and pumping stations. Of the 27 city boiler houses, 16 are fully prepared. Work is also being completed in school boiler houses: 20 out of 40 have already undergone the necessary inspections and repairs. Emergency and repair teams are working at the pumping stations, having already completed about half of the planned volume of work. Inspection and adjustment of pumping equipment, replacement of bearings, seals and other critical components are underway. In parallel, work is underway to replace the thermal insulation on old sections of the pipeline. By September 1, it is planned to complete the complete replacement of the insulation material, which will minimize heat loss and increase the energy efficiency of the systems. An inspection of almost three thousand valves - key elements for regulating the heat flow - is also underway. About 80 of them will be completely replaced in the near future. For facilities operating on solid fuel, the purchase of 1,650 tons of coal is planned. Thus, all heat supply sources will be provided with the necessary fuel reserves before the onset of cold weather. One of the significant projects this year is the replacement of more than 33 kilometers of heating mains in 137 sections of the city. These works will be completed by October 10. The work is especially active in the Kunshigys microdistrict, where almost half a kilometer of the pipeline is being modernized. The new pipes are resistant to corrosion and designed for higher pressure, which will increase the reliability of the entire system. In addition, within the framework of the national project, it is planned to completely modernize the main heat pipeline from TPP-3 to the main pumping station ONS-1. The total length of the updated networks will be 17 kilometers. The first stage of implementation is scheduled for 2025-2026, during which 4.5 kilometers will be modernized. This is one of the strategically important facilities, providing heat to a significant part of the residential and industrial areas of the city. The city authorities emphasize: the main goal of all the events is to create a reliable, safe and efficient heat supply system. Timely preparation will minimize emergency situations in the winter, provide comfortable living conditions for city residents and uninterrupted operation of socially significant institutions. Thus, Shymkent is confidently moving towards the new heating season with a clear plan, necessary resources and a systematic approach to solving problems of any complexity.
An effective measure against heat: Shymkent has introduced a water cooling system 21.07.2025
In the hot July of 2025, the Turansky district of Shymkent began to actively use the method of irrigating the air with upward-directed jets of water. The work is carried out by the ShymkentSpetsKompleks public utility service on behalf of the city Department for the Development of a Comfortable Urban Environment. The main goal of this initiative is to reduce the air temperature on the streets and make the stay of city residents in public places more comfortable. This practice is not new for megacities, where summer heat becomes a challenge for both people and ecosystems. But in Shymkent, such events have become systemic relatively recently. The method is based on the principle of spraying water upwards using special nozzles installed on municipal equipment. The smallest drops of water are sprayed into the air, absorbing heat and evaporating. This leads to a decrease in the ambient temperature by 2-3 degrees near the spray zone, and also helps combat dry air and dust settling. Irrigation is carried out mainly in the morning and afternoon hours in the busiest areas - along roads, at bus stops, near parks and other public spaces. Such measures have a complex effect. First of all, it is a decrease in the outside temperature during periods of extreme heat. The difference is especially noticeable in areas with dense development, where the "heat island" heats the air faster. In addition, fine water spray cleans the air from dust and fine particles, which has a positive effect on the health of city residents, especially children and the elderly. This measure is especially relevant in Shymkent, where the dry climate and high density of vehicles contribute to the accumulation of dust in the air. An additional benefit is the moistening of green areas along roads. Spraying water helps plants survive the heat, preventing them from drying out. This increases the resistance of urban flora, reducing the need for frequent manual watering of lawns and trees. Just a few years ago, air cooling measures were limited to periodic watering of roads and sidewalks. This was done mainly to reduce dust. However, such efforts were not enough to significantly affect the city's microclimate. In 2023–2024, the first experiments with spraying water upwards were conducted, but without the required regularity. Starting in 2025, the city authorities switched to a systematic approach: a schedule for equipment visits was developed in the Turansky District, priority streets were identified, and additional equipment was purchased. In addition, information work with the population has begun in parallel with technical measures. Residents are explained the benefits of water spraying, warned about the operation of municipal equipment and called upon to take care of green spaces and the cleanliness of the city. Ecological significance Spraying water in the city has a beneficial effect on its ecosystem: Reducing air pollution - helps reduce the risk of respiratory diseases. Support for urban vegetation - trees and lawns receive additional moisture in drought conditions. Microclimate stabilization – prevents overheating of asphalt pavement and building walls, which slows down the overall increase in temperature in the city. It is important to note that the water used is technical water, not intended for drinking, which makes the project ecologically and economically sustainable. Shymkent residents have already noted an improvement in their well-being in public spaces. This is especially true for the elderly, parents with children, and workers who are outside during the day. A cooler and fresher atmosphere helps increase activity, reduce fatigue, and reduce overheating. In addition, the aesthetic effect of water mist adds an element of coziness and modernity to street areas, creating the appearance of a well-maintained and caring city. The water spray air cooling system is not just a way to combat heat, but an element of the city's modern environmental policy. Shymkent is an example of how, with relatively small investments, it is possible to increase the level of comfort for city residents, maintain public health, and take care of the urban environment. Compared to previous years, when activities were limited to manual watering of lawns, today the city is moving towards smart and sustainable climate management in the context of urbanization.
