The ski season has officially opened in the Central Park of Astana. In this regard, ski racing competitions were held, the official website of the capital's akimat reports.
Cross-country skiing was held at distances of 500 meters and 2.5 km in several age categories.
"This winter is perfect for skiing. The reason why we planned the opening of the ski season at this time is related to the weather. Again, the thickness of the snow makes it possible to make the ski run at a high level. Skiing is one of the most popular winter sports. There are a lot of people involved in skiing in the capital. Today, everyone from young to old is taking part in the opening of the ski season. Our oldest participant is 83 years old. In addition to ski competitions, belt wrestling, arm wrestling, tug of war, and kettlebell lifting competitions were organized at the opening of the ski season," said Kolbai Zhanbek, Head of the Planning Department for Mass Sports Events at the Astana City Akimat's Directorate of Mass Sports Events.
In the last ski competition, participants competed in 7 age categories.
"The abundance of people during the ski season makes a good impression. I practice swimming myself. And in winter, I focus on skiing. Thanks to the fact that I have been practicing for a year, I have increased my endurance. I am sure that my success in sports will contribute to my life," said 9-year-old Kenshilik Akhmat, one of the youngest participants of the ski season.
At the end of the sporting event, the winners were awarded with diplomas, medals and valuable prizes.
