On November 11, 2024, a Diplomatic conference on the conclusion and Adoption of an Agreement on Industrial Design Laws began its work in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia).
The main purpose of the agreement is to simplify and harmonize national legislation in order to increase the accessibility and effectiveness of legal protection of industrial designs in the international arena. The adoption of the agreement will allow the countries to integrate into the global innovation ecosystem, contributing to the growth of international cooperation and the exchange of advanced technologies in the field of industrial design.
The event is attended by about 900 delegates representing member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), as well as intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations.
The Kazakh delegation was headed by Minister of Justice Azamat Eskarayev.
The official ceremony was opened by Dr. Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Fl-Swaylem, Director General of the Saudi Patent Office. In his speech, he stressed the importance of the treaty for stimulating the development of industrial designs, noting the country's desire to create a unified approach to the legal protection of industrial designs.
In his speech, WIPO Director General Daren Tang expressed confidence that the treaty would open up new opportunities for designers and inventors around the world, allowing them to more effectively protect their developments and strengthen their contribution to the global economy.
Daren Tang also noted that the signing of this agreement, which has been worked on for 19 years, will be an important step in strengthening the global intellectual property system and will help bring countries closer together through joint initiatives to develop innovation and the creative economy.
Minister of Justice Azamat Eskarayev is expected to speak at the Diplomatic Conference, as well as a bilateral meeting with the Director General of WIPO to discuss cooperation issues.
